Host:Mike ChaneyCommissionerMississippi Insurance DepartmentMike Chaney, a Tupelo native and Vicksburg resident, is Mississippi’sCommissioner of Insurance. Prior to his election in 2007, CommissionerChaney served seven years in the Mississippi House of Representativesand eight years in the Mississippi Senate, where he became the firstRepublican to serve as chairman of the Education Committee.Since taking office in January, 2008, Commissioner Chaney has broughta style of transparency and accessibility to the office, including openinga Mississippi Insurance Department office on the Gulf Coast. He hasalso spearheaded a wind mitigation program for the Mississippi GulfCoast region to strengthen homes against hurricane-force winds and helphomeowners realize discounts on their wind insurance premiums.He has also overseen the addition of over 140 new companies to write insurance in the state.Other accomplishments include working to streamline and modernize the licensing procedures used in thedepartment, strengthening and stabilizing the state’s Windpool, lengthening the amount of time the departmenthas to respond to rate filings, worked to secure insurance for volunteer firefighters and worked for legislation toprotect victims of domestic violence from discrimination by health insurance companies. Regulations were alsochanged to allow for two-year licensing of agents in the state, saving the department money and making lifeeasier for the agents.Chaney is a businessman with a strong background in energy and agriculture and a strong advocate forconsumers. He was a pioneer in worker’s compensation in Mississippi. Chaney has served on numerouscommunity development entities including as president of the Vicksburg Chamber of Commerce and presidentof the Vicksburg Economic Development Committee. He is a Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow. He is a pastpresident of the Republican Elected Officials of Mississippi.Chaney earned his bachelor’s degree in Business and Finance from Mississippi State University and haspursued graduate work in business. Peretti is the Acting Director for the Office of CriticalInfrastructure Protection and Compliance Policy at the United StatesDepartment of the Treasury located in Washington, D.C.At the Department of the Treasury, Mr. Peretti supervises the planning,evaluating and implementation of information security, informationassurance, and risk management policies related to critical infrastructureprotection, cyber security and homeland security. He leads the efforts ofthe Financial and Banking Information Infrastructure Committee(FBIIC), an interagency organization chartered under the President'sWorking Group for Financial Markets composed of 18 federal and statefinancial regulatory agencies.He is the relationship manager to the Departments of Homeland Security, Energy, Transportation, Justice,Defense and the Intelligence Community Homeland Security issues. He represents the Treasury on variousinteragency groups, including Cyber Interagency Planning Committee (Cyber –IPC), the National CyberResponse Coordination Group, and the National CIP R & D draft group. He is the emergency coordinator forthe Treasury’s Domestic Finance area where he leads efforts in the areas of business continuity and disasterrecovery. He directs the Treasury’s effort to implement a Research and Development agenda, created incoordination with the financial services sector, to address technology issues.He has lectured extensively and has authored six books on topics related to financial institutions, including,most recently, co-authoring with Barkley Clark and Mark Hargrave Compliance Guide to Payment Systems:Law and Regulations.Prior to joining the Treasury Department, Mr. Peretti was an associate in Shook, Hardy & Bacon’s CorporateBanking and Finance Section in Washington, D.C. Kenn KernDeputy ChiefCybercrime and Identity Theft BureauNew York County District Attorney’s OfficeKenn Kern is the Deputy Chief of the Cybercrime and Identity TheftBureau at the New York County District Attorney’s Office (DANY),serving under District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr.At the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, Kenn has conductedinvestigations and led prosecutions of money laundering, securitiesfraud, schemes to defraud, conspiracy, and cyber-crimes. While servingin the Major Economics Crimes Bureau at the DA’s Office, Kenn coprosecuted Lawrence Salander and Leigh Morse, an art gallery ownerand director, respectively, for their decade-long, 120 million Ponzischeme involving consigned art work. The Salander/Morse prosecutionis regarded as the largest art fraud scheme in New York State’s history.As Deputy Bureau Chief of the Cybercrime and Identity Theft Bureau, Kenn oversaw the prosecution of ninetyfour individuals charged with Grand Larceny in a matter involving fraud against TD Bank.Kenn served as the keynote feature at the 2013 Institute of International Bankers (IIB) Conference and aspeaker at the 2012 FIBA Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Conference.Kenn is an honors graduate of the University Of Texas School Of Law, where he served as an Assistant toAdmiral Bobby I. Inman, former Director of the National Security Agency. Previously, Tom led the effort to develop a resiliency-focusedrisk analysis and modeling office for NPPD that examines both cyberand physical threats to critical infrastructures, systems, and the public.Prior to his arrival at DHS, he served as the Staff Director and Counsel for the Subcommittee on Intelligence,Information Sharing and Terrorism Risk Assessment with the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Securitywhere he advised the Subcommittee Chair, Jane Harman (D-CA). Robert A. Robertjoined AIG in 1998 as legal counsel for its Professional Liability group andheld several executive and legal positions, including CUO for ProfessionalLiability and Technology. Before joining XL Group, John was the assistantvice president in charge of professional liability at CNA, where hemanaged a portfolio of cyber and E&O insurance with a focus on thetechnology industry. Before that, he held various underwriting, auditand accounting positions at Gulf Insurance. Lance J. Hoffman, Ph.D.DirectorThe Cyber Security and Policy Research Institute ofThe George Washington UniversityDr. Lance J. Hoffman is known for his pioneering research on computer securityand risk analysis, and for his interdisciplinary work in computer privacy issues.Distinguished Research Professor of Computer Science and Director of the CyberSecurity Policy and Research Institute at The George Washington University(GW). he is the author or editor of five books and numerous articles on computersecurity and privacy.A Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and a seniormember of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Dr.Hoffman has served on a number of Advisory Committees dealing with privacy and security, including those ofFederal Trade Commission and the Department of Homeland Security. He is a Member of the Subcommitteeson Law, and Security and Privacy of the U. S. Public Policy Council of the ACM.His teaching innovations include multidisciplinary courses on information policy, electronic commerce, andcybersecurity and governance. His research has spanned multiple aspects of cybersecurity, including riskanalysis, privacy/data protection, and statistical inference for data mining. He directs GW’s CyberCorpsscholarship program that has produced dozens of cybersecurity experts, all the beneficiaries of crossdisciplinary instruction in the technology, policy, and management aspects of cybersecurity and privacy.During his career, Prof. Hoffman’s thought leadership has included the organizing of several projects thatpushed forward emerging areas of cybersecurity, such asa) a 1987 workshop on Internet voting and personal computer-based voting machine systems;b) 1987 software, RISKCALC, used commercially and in government for early cybersecurity riskanalysesc) a 1999 study of foreign encryption products. Dr. Hoffman later testified before the U. S.
