I am excited about the2018 – 2019 school year and the amazing events we have planned to celebrate theyears of excellence in this community. As the proud principal of Hallandale HighSchool, I am equally honored that you have entrusted your child to the ChargerNation. It is with passion and purpose that I seek daily to make a positive impact onthe lives of each student at Hallandale High School.As an all magnet high school, your child will be exposed to a variety of careerand technical courses with a focus on Entrepreneurship, STEM, and Multimedia.Each of these magnet academies enables our students to walk away with tangibleworkforce ready skills. Additionally, we offer programming in Advanced Placement,Dual-Enrollment, and online learning opportunities taught by caring, highly qualifiedinstructors.It is with deliberate intent that we focus on addressing the needs of the wholechild. Programs such as the 5000 Role Models of Excellence, Latino’s In Action, andWomen of Tomorrow serve to provide support and guidance for students whileeliminating the barriers to success. Equally important are the opportunities forstudents to participate in clubs, activities, and athletic programs. This will enable themto forge quality relationships and feel connected to the school community.Together we will make this an amazing school year! Safety & Security Procedures for 2018-2019!School Hours: 7:30 am to 2:30 pmAfter School Program Hours:Perimeter Gates: All perimeter Gates MUSTnow remain locked unless there is a staff memberto supervise the gate.2:30 PM - 5:00 PM7:00 – 7:40 – teacher/student lot gate open2:30 -- 3:00 – teacher/student lot gate open7:00 – 3:00 –front of school, drive-in gate open*front gate (Sonny’s Gate) will remainCLOSED7:00 – 7:40 – morning bus loop gate open2:15 – 3:00 – afternoon bus loop open4:45-5:15 – bus loop open (Monday-Thursday)Hours of Supervision: 7:00 am – 3:00 pmThese hours of supervision will be strictlyenforced. Any student on campus before or afterthese hours must be supervised by an activity orclub sponsor, or another faculty/staff member.Students not participating in any after schoolactivity will be expected to leave campusimmediately. Students are NOT allowed to roamthe campus unattended after school.Monday-ThursdayID Badges:Students must wear an ID badge at all times.Students who were not able to pick up their IDsduring orientation can wear last year’s ID untilthey receive their 2018-2019 ID badge. Lost ordestroyed ID badges can be replaced for a 5replacement fee.Visitors MUST enter through our single point ofentry and check in at the front office with photoID, scan in through the STAR system, andreceive a visitor’s badge. They must present theirID at the main entry gate.Early Pick-Up: No early sign-outs are allowedduring the last 30 minutes of school.Safety Drills:In addition to our monthly fire drills, we are nowrequired to also conduct monthly code red drills.Open House!Open House will be on September 18, 2018 @ 6:00 PM.Parents, you are invited to come out and meet the staff andyour child’s teachers, and learn all about the courses,curriculum, and requirements your child will need to know inorder to have a successful year at Hallandale High School! Youwill also have the opportunity to meet the sponsors of our manyclubs, athletic opportunities, and extra curricular activities inwhich your child can get involved! Identification Badges:In order to ensure the safety and security of everyone individual at Hallandale High School,every person on a Broward County School campus MUST have proper identification!Students were able to take their school ID pictures during grade level orientations andschedule distribution events on August 8 and August 10. Students who were not able toget their school ID made on those dates will have the opportunity to have their school IDmade every day during A & B lunch in room 308 the first two weeks of school.LOST ID’s: Students who lose or damage their school ID will be required to purchaseanother ID for a 5.00 replacement fee. Students are not allowed to be in school withoutthe proper ID. Parents, we want to thank you in advance for helping keep the school safeand secure by ensuring your child wears their ID badge to school every day!Student Code of Conduct:The Code of Student Conduct Handbook Goes Green! Parents areinvited to review the Code of Student Conduct Handbook andcomplete the required forms by accessing the Back to School Formslink found on the Broward Schools’ webpage ineformsThis is also where all mandatory back to school forms can belocated, including the emergency contact card. The GREAT newsis that you no longer have to fill out the same information multipletimes. Fill in your information once, and the online platformautomatically populates all repeated fields on multiple forms. Yousave time AND trees! Please complete these form by the end of thefirst week of school, August 17th. Thank You!Dress Code:Students at Hallandale High School are required to follow the dress code policy outlined by BrowardCounty Schools. Some of the highlights of the Broward County Dress Code Policy are outlined below. Revealing clothing or clothing that exposes the torso is not allowed. Examples include, but are not limited to: tank tops orspaghetti straps without over-blouses (long shirts) or jackets; see-through garments; mini-skirts or mini-dresses; halters;backless dresses; jackets, shirts, or blouses tied at the midriff; and bare midriff outfits.Clothing which is not worn appropriately, is not properly fastened, or has tears that are indecent will not be permitted.All trousers, including oversized or low-hanging trousers must be worn and secured at waist level.Garments including, but not limited to, pajamas, boxer shorts, bloomers, and bustiers, which were traditionallydesigned as undergarments, sleepwear, or beachwear, may not be worn as outer garments. Other clothing not allowedare: leggings without over-blouses (long shirts) that reach mid-thigh, tights, bodysuits, or hosiery, including thosewith lace trim, and bicycle racing attire unless they are worn underneath dresses, skirts, or shorts of appropriate length.Caps and hats are not allowed unless they are worn for religious or medical reasons. Bandannas are not allowed.3
