Pharmacy Demand Report (PDR)2021 Yearly SummaryAmerican Association ofColleges of PharmacyAmerican College ofClinical PharmacyAmerican PharmacistsAssociationAmerican Society ofHealth-System PharmacistsBoard of Pharmacy SpecialtiesThe Pharmacy Workforce Center (PWC) developed the PharmacyDemand Report (PDR) to replace the Pharmacy Demand Index (PDI)in 2020. The goal of the PDR is to provide an enhanced measurement ofpharmacist demand in the United States.The information should be utilized by the pharmacy profession andother stakeholders to assess and follow the trends for various careeropportunities for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians on an individualstate, region, and metropolitan area level. In September 2020, the PWCreleased the inaugural version of the PDR. Overall, there was a total of 5,051 postings. Whencompared to the 3,928 postings in 2020, this represents a growth of29%. In total, 43 states had growth in retail pharmacist job postings,and 9 states saw a loss in this category. In 2020, the occupation withthe largest growth was Clinical Pharmacists.Occupation with the Greatest LossWhile experiencing overall growth, the Hospital Pharmacist jobpostings saw a loss in the most states (when compared to otherpositions). Overall, there was a total of 1,028 postings, compared to914 postings in 2020, a growth of 12%. In total, 20 states had growthin this category, 11 remained the same, and 21 states saw a loss. The postings quotientis the number of job postingsper 1,000 licensed pharmacists.
