SOLUTIONS FORINFUSIONPUMPSSensors and SwitchesApplication NoteInfusion pumps are used to deliver fluids, medicines or nutrients to patients. Fluidsand medicines are delivered intravenouslydirectly into the blood stream and nutrients aredelivered directly into the stomach.BACKGROUNDSOLUTIONSInfusion pumps are medical devicesthat deliver fluids, such as nutrients andmedications, into a patient’s body incontrolled amounts. They are commonlyused in hospital intensive care units andwards, but smaller portable infusionpumps are now being used to treatpatients at home.Honeywell sensor and switchsolutions are designed to enhance theperformance and reliability of infusionpumps, monitor the delivery of fluids, medicines and nutrients to the patientand ensure the safe administration of thetreatment to the patient (See Figure 1).These devices offer significantadvantages over manual administrationof fluids, including the ability to deliverfluids in very small volumes, and theability to deliver fluids at preciselyprogrammed rates or automatedintervals. There are many types of infusionpumps, including large volume, patientcontrolled analgesia (PCA), syringe, enteral and insulin pumps. Some aredesigned mainly for stationary useat a patient’s bedside. Others, calledambulatory infusion pumps, are designedto be portable or wearable.SOLUTIONS FORINFUSION PUMPAPPLICATIONS Force Sensors Pressure Sensors – BoardMount Magnetic Position Sensor ICs Basic and AML Switches Subminiature Load Cells Barcode Scan Engines &Software
