93NUMBER AND DISTRIBUTIONMinor civil divisions.-The primary divisions ofthe counties of Arizona are election precincts, justice precincts, or school districts. These precincts or districtsinclude the secondary divisions, which are known as cities and towns. Table4 shows the population of each county by precincts or districts, cities, and townsfor the last two censuses. The population of the cities and towns is shown initalics under the population of the precincts or districts in which they are respectively situated. Where an incorporated place occupies two or more precincts or parts of precincts, the total population of the place is given in connectionwith the presentation for the first precinct. The population of Yuma, whichincludes five entire precincts, is shown in Roman type, followed by the precinctpopulation in italic type. Mesa and Tempe towns are similarly presented.Changes in the boundaries of precincts or districts and incorporated placesbetween 1920 and 1930 are indicuted by footnotes on Table 4.TABLE 4.-POPULATION OF COUNTIES BY MINOR CIVIL DIVISIONS: 9201930AND[The "precincts" shown in the table are election precincts or justice precincts; for certain counties notorganized into precincts \lie figures arc presented by "districts," that is, school districts. Because ofnumerous changes in boundaries or precincts, no comparative figures for 1910 are given. Counties showing totals for 1920, but no other comparative figures, have been redistricted since 1920.
