The American Academy of OrthopaedicSurgeons is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.PURPOSEThe intent of the SOMOS Meeting is to provide an educational forum for the exchange ofmilitarily relevant orthopaedic surgical advances in order to optimize the delivery of orthopaedicspecialty care within the Department of Defense.OBJECTIVESOrthopaedic surgeons should attend updates reporting on the contemporary practice oforthopaedic surgery on a regular basis. Paramount to the process of continuing medical educationis the sharing of new techniques and their outcomes. The SOMOS Annual Meeting provides theopportunity for the military orthopaedic surgery community to share their combined experiencesand knowledge, so that individual practitioners can incorporate the most recent advances intotheir own current surgical practice. By the end of the Meeting, individual SOMOS attendees willbe able to do the following: Identify the current trends and updates pertinent to military orthopaedic surgeons relatingto wartime trauma.Describe current treatment recommendations for common military orthopaedic conditionsinvolving sports, foot and ankle, hand, spine and pediatric conditions.Formulate a plan for the assimilation of current trends and standards into their ownsurgical practice.Identify advances specific to their orthopaedic practice.
