Wehave two main types of polygraph examinations on offer, namely Specific Polygraph Examinationsand Pre-employment Polygraph Examinations.2.1.1Specific Polygraph ExaminationsThis type of Polygraph Examination is a case/issue specific examination that is aimed at identifyingthe deceptive and clearing the innocent. It is important to note that although two, three or even four relevant questions may be asked during aSpecific Polygraph Examination, the result of such an examination will always be “DECEPTIONINDICATED”, “NO DECEPTION INDICATED” or “INCONCLUSIVE”.Polygraph Examinations of this kind can be used in any type of scenario where the aim is to determinethe involvement of persons in a specific incident.2.1.2Pre-employment Polygraph ExaminationsThe name of this examination is self – explanatory. In some instances of utilization of this technique, itcan with justification be called “Screening Polygraph Examinations”. Pre-employment PolygraphExaminations are utilized by Institutions, Companies or Governments where all applicants aresubjected to this type of polygraph examination to determine their suitability for employment.A polygraph examination will also have the following benefits: Ensuring the applicant was honest on the application form; Giving the applicant an opportunity to make voluntary admissions, and Enabling the employer to make a decision based on information gained before, during and afterthe polygraph examination, as well as the result of the examination. The following relevant questions are suggested as a basis for developing your own set of questions.(Note: Please bear in mind the polygraph ethics restricts examiners to the use of a maximum of eightrelevant questions in a pre-employment polygraph examination.)

Do you have any debt, which you did not tell me about? Have you used any illegal substances in the past two years? Are you currently a member of a criminal group? Did you ever commit an undetected crime, which you did not tell me about? Did you ever steal anything to the value of R100 or more from any place you worked at in thepast?
