We establishedthe East Lake COVID-19 Relief Fundto provide targeted short- and longterm support to stabilize families andour community wellness partners who are experiencingeconomic hardship. Thanks to many of you, we are 60%of the way to our 1 million goal.We are proud that we’ve been able to assist 149families at The Villages of East Lake with nearly 190,000is support for rent and utilities; distribute 4,100 masksand more than 2,000 grocery boxes to area families, inpartnership with the Atlanta Chefs Association, AthenaFoods, East Lake Golf Club and East Lake Family YMCA;and purchase 600 portable devices forstudents at Charles R. Drew Charter Schooland families in The Villages of East Lake,among other support.We hope you will continue to invest inour work. Thank you! East Lake Celebrates Eva Davis DayOn September 3rd, the East Lakeneighborhood celebrated the lifeand legacy of the late Eva Davis,an effort led by Sheltering Arms EastLake. Ms. Davis was a local activist,visionary, community leader, andformer president of the East Lake Meadows Tenants Association who partnered with TomCousins, Renee Glover and others to develop the visionfor the East Lake neighborhood that we enjoy today. Ms.Davis was known for loving red, so in honor of Ms. Davis,our East Lake Initiative partners turned East Lake red bywearing red and sharing stories of Ms. Davis. The Villages of East Lake Gardenside Opens with EnthusiasmThis fall, Columbia Residential opened The Villages of East Lake Gardenside, a newmixed-income apartment complex in the East Lake neighborhood. The state-of-the-art108-unit complex, located behind the Publix at East Lake facing Fayetteville Rd., featuresapartments with 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms, a garden, playground, community room and otheramenities. 70% of the apartments are rented at an affordable rate to families who earn 60%of area median income (AMI) and below, including 20% of the units at50% of AMI and below.Families who move into Gardenside will receive priority in the DrewCharter School lottery and the other programs offered by the EastLake Foundation and its partners. This addition to The Villages of EastLake increases and diversifies the affordable rental housing availablein East Lake and furthers the East Lake Foundation’s goal to broadenits impact in the neighborhood and at Drew Charter School. Drew Charter School Board of Directors Welcomes New LeadershipEarlier this year, Cynthia Kuhlman,Director of Educational Achievementfor the CF Foundation, completed a15-year term as Chair of the Boardfor Drew Charter School, achievingunparalleled success. While Cynthiaremains on the Board as a Director,Ron Alston, the Atlanta MarketPresident for Truist, enthusiasticallyaccepted the role as Chair. Ron has been leading Drew,in partnership with Peter McKnight, seamlessly through thisyear’s many challenges related to the pandemic.Shannon Longino, First Vice President for Truist, formerresident of East Lake Meadows, long-time supporterof the East Lake Foundation, and former Drew CharterSchool parent has been appointedVice Chair. John Majors, VicePresident of Development atBrinshore and former Vice Presidentat Purpose Built Communities, hasbeen appointed Treasurer. AllisonFillmore, Director of the TOURChampionship, Drew CharterSchool parent and East Lakeresident, was appointed Secretary.The Drew Charter School Board and executiveleadership are strong, committed and laser-focused onDrew Charter School’s success towards its mission. Aswe celebrate this accomplishment,we’re proud to highlight two amazingalumna who now bookend thiscollege experience, DelshaneeMartin from the Class of 2017 andPayton Gunner from the Class of 2020.Delshanee Martin was an enthusiastic member ofDrew’s Legacy Class of 2017. While at Drew, she wasinvolved with student government, founded the school’sDo It Yourself (DIY) Club and participated as a competitivecheerleader. She was also a young entrepreneur, startingher own cosmetics business called Lábio Couture that usesall natural ingredients. After graduating from Drew CharterSchool, DelShanee moved west to attend Pitzer Collegein California where she is studying International/GlobalStudies and Cosmetic Scienceand has excelled academicallywhile running her business. She willgraduate in the spring of 2021.Payton Gunner made wavesat Drew Charter School as anoutstanding student leader,harpist, playwright, and worldclass debater. She was captainof Drew’s State Championship Debate Team and wasa member of the inaugural cohort of the prestigiousHarvard Debate Council Diversity Project. She currentlyattends Brandeis University on a Posse Scholarship andis dedicated to social justice and activism. She hopes tomajor in Theatre and minor in Business.Congratulations to these two young women forembracing their dreams and working to achievegreatness. Fly high, Drew Eagles!

East Lake Women’s Alliance Grants 20,000 to East Lake Healthy ConnectionsThe East Lake Women’s Alliance ended its 2020program year with a golf outing and grant night at EastLake Golf Club sponsored by Porsche.The East Lake Women’s Alliance voted to grant itscollective membership dues to the East Lake FamilyYMCA’s Healthy Connections program. Funds will beused to ensure all eligible East Lake families have accessto health insurance, effectively utilize primary andpreventive health services, properly manage chronicdiseases, and have access to mental health servicesand healthyfood, which areall particularly important services in the midst of theCOVID-19 pandemic.The East Lake Women’s Alliance is a philanthropic,professional group of Atlanta women who havecommitted to focus their time and financial support withthe East Lake Foundation. Ole Miss Women and Pepperdine Men Win6th Annual East Lake CupOn October 26-28, 2020, The GolfChannel, East Lake Golf Club andEast Lake Foundation hosted the 6thAnnual East Lake Cup. The three-dayNCAA collegiate tournament featuredfour top performing men’s andwomen’s golf teams from across thecounty: University of Florida (Women),Pepperdine (Men), University ofOklahoma, (Men), Ole Miss (Women),University of South Carolina (Women),Texas Tech University (Men), andUniversity of Texas (Women and Men).3While this year’s tournamentwas held without spectators, theexcitement remained palpable. Afterthree days of competition, Ole Miss’Women’s Golf Team and Pepperdine’sMen’s Golf Team claimed the 2020East Lake Cup.The East Lake Cup also featuredthe presentation of the Tom CousinsAward, a recognition of outstandinggolfers who exemplify the values ofthe East Lake Foundation: excelsin academics, is engaged in thecommunity and has overcomeadversity. This year’s winners are JPRoller from Texas Tech University andLauren Waidner from the University ofFlorida.Thanks to our partners at the GolfChannel, HNS Sports, East Lake GolfClub and our amazing sponsors –ZipRecruiter, Uber Eats, Bridgestone Golf,Mercedez-Benz, Geico and TopGolf. Asa result of their generous support, theEast Lake Foundation raised 153,000from the East Lake Cup.

TOUR Championship Announces Record 3.6 million CharitableDonation from 2020 Tournament to Atlanta Nonprofits after anUnprecedented YearThe TOUR Championship announced that more than 3.6 million was donated to Atlanta-area charities from the2020 tournament, breaking the previous record despitethe absence of spectators at East Lake Golf Club for theFedExCup Playoffs finale, where Dustin Johnson claimed hisfirst FedExCup title.The TOURChampionship, with thesupport of Proud PartnersCoca-Cola and SouthernCompany, has raisedmore than 37 million forlocal nonprofits since theevent was first stagedat East Lake Golf Club in 1998, including the four charitablebeneficiaries: East Lake Foundation, Grove Park Foundation,Purpose Built Schools Atlanta and First Tee of Metro Atlanta.“This charity announcement is a bright spot during whathas been a challenging year for this tournament andsporting events everywhere,” Executive Director AllisonFillmore said. “The pandemic forced our team to adapt onmany levels in order to host a successful event, especiallyas it relates to our annual charitable donation. Everyoneinvolved in this tournament should take a great deal of pridein what we were able to generate for the community underdifficult circumstances.”Through the creation of the ‘Golf With a Purpose’ CharityChallenge – a 9-hole exhibition staged on the eve ofthe 2020 TOUR Championship that featured NFL Hall ofFamer Jerome Bettis and NBA legend Vince Carter – thetournament was able to raise 1 million thanks to theinvolvement of Proud Partners Coca-Cola and SouthernCompany, as well as several other local Atlanta companies.The East Lake Foundation, with the support of our Boardof Directors and PGA Golf Professional Brendon Todd, wasalso excited to bring back Birdies for East Lake, which raisedmore than 70,000. Throughout tournament week, the TOURChampionship and East Lake Foundation also partneredwith Ideas United, an Atlanta-based creative studio, to hostthe TOUR Championship Golf Ball. This virtual fundraisingexperience encouraged donations to the tournament’scharitable beneficiaries as well a virtual auction with prizes.These engaging and innovative fundraising initiativesaided in the TOUR Championship’s ability not only to make asignificant charitable investment in the local community butalso to eclipse the total donation from the 2019 tournament.Thank you to the PGA TOUR, TOUR Championship, CocaCola and Southern Company, and East Lake Golf Club fortheir continued generous support of our work. East Lake Early Learning Academy Names New DirectorLaTesha Gray has been named the newDirector of the East Lake Early LearningAcademy at the East Lake FamilyYMCA. Having earned her degree inEarly Childhood Education, LaTesha hasdevoted more than 17 years to workingin education with children and theirfamilies. She is committed to continuing the work of theYMCA Early Learning Academy and creating a strong,STEAM-based educational program focused on soundfoundational skills, play with a purpose, literacy, andbuilding robust vocabularies.Prior to becoming the Director of the East Lake Early4Learning Academy, LaTesha was a member of the seniormanagement team at Purpose Built Schools Atlanta,where she served on the community engagement teamand as director of three extended day programs.No stranger to the East Lake community, LaTesha wasalso formerly the Family Support Coordinator for theSheltering Arms Early Learning Center in East Lake andhas been a parent in the community for twelve years.Her daughter also attended Sheltering Arms East Lake,matriculated through our cradle-to-college pipelineand is now a freshman at Drew Charter School’s SeniorAcademy. LaTesha’s son was a member of Drew CharterSchool’s Legacy Class of 2017.

Start:ME East Lake is Recruiting Mentors for its Seventh CohortJanuary 2021 will mark the seventh year ofStart:ME East Lake, a 14-session program that offersintensive skills-based business training, mentorshipsupport and financing needed to develop viableand sustainable micro-businesses. The 2021program will be hosted virtually.In partnership with Emory University’s GoizuetaSchool of Business, Start:ME is recruiting anexperienced group of professional mentors to providesupport for participating micro-entrepreneurs. East Lake Foundation Welcome Two New Board MembersOn November 17th, the East LakeFoundation’s Board of Directorswelcomed two new board members:Marilyn Hack and Joyce Reto. These twoleaders in the community have beenassociated with the Foundation’s workfor years and will contribute to the broaddiversity of the Foundation’s Board.Marilyn Hack is a former long-timeresident of The Villages of East Lake, an activeparticipant in the East Lake community, a current DrewCharter School parent, and has served as a residentrepresentative for the East Lake Foundation for numerouslocal and national events and publications. She will serveon the Foundation’s Board of Director’s as its first evercommunity Board Member.Joyce joins us from RSM, acompany that has been committedto holistic community revitalizationand has been a generous supporterof the Foundation’s work for the lasttwo years.“We are thrilled to have Marilynand Joyce join our East LakeFoundation team,” said Danny J.Shoy, Jr, President and CEO of the East Lake Foundation.“Marilyn and her family represent the Foundation’s missionin action and Joyce is proof that partnerships amplifythe Foundation’s outcomes. Blank Family FoundationInvest 9.5 Million in First Tee ProgramIn September, First Tee National announced that it isexpanding its relationship with PGA TOUR Superstore,thanks to a 9.5 million grant from PGA TOUR Superstoreand The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. Thenationwide virtual announcement featured First Tee ofMetro Atlanta and Drew Charter School representativesSolomon Dobbs and Hailey Fischer. The new grantwill help First Tee reach more children across the U.S.and strengthen First Tee’s curriculum for teenageparticipants.Beginning in 2021, more than 1,300 First Tee teenagerswill have the opportunity to participate in an annualfive-week leadership development program at PGATOUR Superstores. Additionally, 40 teens from across First5Tee will be selectedannually for aweek-long summitat West CreekRanch in Montana,an inspiring retreatspace owned byPGA TOUR Superstore owner, Arthur M. Blank, and withan intended purpose of growth, education and comingtogether to make a difference.First Tee of Metro Atlanta will receive a portion of thesefunds that will be split between 150 chapters across thecountry.

Drew Charter School Students Receive Prestigious Invention GrantDrew Charter School was recently awardeda Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam grant for 10,000to create a device to record police-civilianinteraction in personal automobiles. DrewCharter is one of 13 high schools nationwide tobe selected as an InvenTeam this year.InvenTeams are teams of high schoolstudents, teachers and mentors that receivegrants to invent technological solutions to realworld problems. This initiative of the LemelsonMIT Program aims to inspire a new generationof inventors.Beth White, Drew Charter School’s SeniorAcademy Engineering Teacher initiated theInvenTeam application process last spring andworked with the students over the summer toprepare the final proposal. A prestigious panelof judges composed of educators, researchers,staff and alumni from MIT,as well as representativesfrom industry and formerLemelson-MIT Awardwinners, assembled virtuallythis fall and selected DrewCharter as one of this year’sInvenTeam grantees.Over the next ninemonths, the Drew CharterInvenTeam will build aworking prototype oftheir invention that will beshowcased at a technicalreview within the localcommunity in February, andthen again as a final prototype at EurekaFest,an invention celebration in June of 2021. Purpose Built Communities Receives 2 MillionGrant to Support COVID-19 Relief in AtlantaPurpose Built Communitieswas selected as one of sixorganizations in cities across thecountry to receive a 2 milliongrant through The AudaciousProject to support COVID-19relief and recovery effortsin Atlanta. The Purpose BuiltCommunities grant supportsthe work of the three Purpose Built Communities NetworkMembers in Atlanta: East Lake Foundation, Grove ParkFoundation and Focused Community Strategies. Thecritical funds are being utilized to offset the pandemic’simpact and meet the short- and long-term needs ofvulnerable residents, specifically Black people and otherPeople of Color, and community wellness partners inthe East Lake, Grove Park and Historic South Atlantaneighborhoods. The funds have been leveraged by a localcampaign that raised an additional 2.6 million to supportthese COVID-19 relief efforts.The East Lake Foundation, Grove Park Foundationand Focused Communities Strategies have eachimplemented COVID-19 relief and recovery efforts todeploy resources equitably, quickly, and strategicallyacross their communities. COVID-19 relief funds werealready established in each community, primarily providingrental, mortgage and utility assistance for residents andsupplying vital food, personal care and cleaning items.These additional funds will ensure that families in needhave access to digital devices, academic support, mentalhealth and wellness programs and that all residents havemasks and are encouraged to wear them to protectthemselves and others.“During this historic time in our city, stepping up toaddress racial inequities is more important than ever. Oneof the ways we can do that is by providing relief during thiscrisis, and the East Lake Foundation, Focused CommunityStrategies, and Grove Park Foundation have been vitalleaders, advocates and partners for their neighborhoods,”said Carol Naughton, President and interim CEO of PurposeBuilt Communities. “We are grateful for the leadership andsupport of the Harlem Children’s Zone and The AudaciousProject in this national effort.”Thus far, the campaign in Atlanta has been asuccess.
