In 2008 she moved to New York to begina career as a fashion designer. Her 12 -1/2 year success in the fashion industry heavily influenced herdesire to become an artist. Like in fashion design, through an imaginative lens, Cross uses vibrant bold color,shapes, textures, movement, and patterns to communicate a contemporary art perspective in her drawingsand paintings. Developed for studentswith little or no clay experience, the class coversbasic skills at the potter’s wheel for creating functional work. Demonstrations will cover wedging,centering, and forming shapes such as vases,mugs, bowls and plates. Basic decorating andglazing techniques will be taught as well as moreadvanced techniques such as attaching multipleparts to one object, throwing lids, and surfacedecoration as student progress.From the basic cylinder, we are able to create amultitude of different shapes and sizes. We willconcentrate on multiple bowls, mugs, and otherfunctional wares which will enforce techniques,shape, and design.
