ResponsibilitiesThere are 6 areas of leadership and management responsibility whichvery broadly describe what managers should be doing in order to beeffective. Skills & KnowledgeThere are 6 areas of Skills and Knowledge which very broadlydescribe the skills and knowledge managers need to have to beeffective.4

University of Sheffield – Leadership and Management Framework3.Overview of the LMF (Continued)The four Levels of ManagementThe University recognises that the term manager covers a very wide range ofjobs. Within the University managers are found within Academic, Research,Technical, Support and Professional Service roles. Managers range from peoplewho supervise one or two other colleagues to people who are responsible forwhole faculties and spend almost all of their time managing.The LMF is divided into 4 levels of management shown in the table below. Weencourage Faculties and Departments to adapt the chart below for their ownuse and to use relevant examples of job titles if necessary so that the levels ofmanagement reflect structures within Faculties and Departments.The Behaviours and Skills & Knowledge listed in the LMF apply to leaders andmanagers at all levels.
