User Guide INFINITT PacsAugust 23, 20131.0 What is INFINITT PACS?INFINITT PACS is a web-based 3D-enabled DICOM viewing station that runs on Windows 2000/XP.It is adapted for storage, processing, routing and report generation. INFINITT PACS fully supportsDICOM standards and such functions as advanced DICOM viewing, Hanging Protocol, 3Dsegmentation, various MPRs, fast 3D Volume Rendering, MIP, and Virtual Endoscopy.INFINITT PACS allows users to take full advantage of radiographic images from various modalities inorder to obtain invaluable mission critical diagnostic information and images. With INFINITT PACS, users can have their own customized diagnostic environment anywhere andanytime.INFINITT PACS is deployed through the web and supports hanging protocol globally. Also INFINITTPACS utilizes JPEG 2000 compression features so that it takes less time to transfer images throughthe network.INFINITT PACS supports interoperability between IHE approved workstations (Integrating theHealthcare Enterprise) with security functions.1.1 What is DICOM?The Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) Standard is a detailed specificationthat describes the means of formatting and exchanging images and associated information. Thestandard defines the operation of the interface, which is used to transfer data in and out of an imagingdevice.DICOM relies on computer industry standard network connections, and media devices that addressthe communication and storage of digital images from diagnostic modalities such as CT(ComputedTomography), MR (Magnetic Resonance), PET(Positron Emission Tomography), Nuclear Medicine,Ultrasound, X-ray, CR (Computed Radiology), digitized film, video capture and Hospital InformationSystem/Radiology Information System (HIS/RIS). DICOM also addresses the connection ofnetworked printers, such as laser imagers.DICOM is the result of an alliance of potential users of a standard (members of the AmericanCollegeof Cardiology and AmericanCollege of Radiology) with companies that manufacture medicalequipment (members of the National Electrical Manufacturer's Association-NEMA). The DICOM effortbegan in 1984, and it was originally called the ACR/NEMA standard. Now, DICOM has beenembraced by other worldwide standards organizations outside of Radiology. For example, DICOMhas been adopted by the Committee European de Normalization (CEN TC 251) and the JapaneseIndustry Association for Radiation Apparatus (JIRA).Now, it is controlled by the DICOM images across the fields of radiology, cardiology, pathology anddentistry.Prepared by Abex IITPage 3
