A message from KayHello Spring!I don’t know about you, but Lee and I are certainly ready for some warmer weather. It’s time to get those Gold Wings or other bikes ready for riding season and weall can use a healthy dose of some “Wing Therapy”. It’s always therapeutic ridingin the warmth of the sun as you feel the wind blow across your face, especially after a long cold, very cold at times, period of time!The officers have met, discussed and planned out the ride calendar and boy is itfull of “Wing Therapy”. Chapter W’s snowbirds should be flocking back in the verynear future and wish them safe travels on their return back home. We are so looking forward to having them back with us again.The District will be having an ERC/TRC in Columbus on May 4/5 in the CumminsFuel System parking lot. Information is included in this newsletter. On May 18thwe will have a “Blessing of the Bikes” or more like a “Blessing of the Chapter” witha ride leaving Columbus and heading to Clifty Falls State Park. Please bring yourown picnic lunch as we have reserved the Oak Grove Shelter for our picnic priorto the blessing.On June 15th, our chapter will celebrate 15 years since it was reassigned to Columbus after being closed down for a while in Greenburg. We are very fortunate tohave some of those charter members still active. A special Thank You goes toRick & Vickie Lewis for having the courage to start it up 15 years ago. I am surethey had no idea how their lives would change and how big their circle of friendswould grow. While we take time to celebrate this date with friends and family, weare seizing the opportunity to make it a fundraiser too. We have planned a buffetdinner, silent auction and dance at the Eagles in Columbus. The flyer with ticketinformation and details are included as well. If you haven’t been able to attendeda chapter function for whatever reason, now is the time to come back to help uscelebrate our friendships and our love to ride.Please check out the ride calendar and we hope you can join us on many of them.Take care!Kay

From our Chapter Financial Expert:Wednesday March 6, 2019 Chapter W gathered at the SirloinStockade in Columbus, Indiana.Gathering was opened with the Pledge to the Flag led by PaulDettmer with 19 members present.Chapter W's lucky couple for the month is Gary and Debbie Davis.Kay Tieche, Chapter Director suggested some Chapter that maybeour Chapter might want to attend in the future.Riders Ed for Trikes and Motorcycles will be held here in Columbus at Cummins Fuel System on Saturday May 3 for Trikes andSunday May 4 for Bikes more details to follow.Ideas for the ride schedule is being up dated please let Kay or LeeTieche or Keith Hall know.Start thinking about Wing Ding it will be in Nashville, TN this yearAugust 27 thru August 31. From our Indiana District Ride Educators:HOO-HOO! Spring has sprung! Yesterday was the first day of spring and it couldnot have come at a more needed time! Temps are steadily rising and I know a fewof us have been out riding and enjoying the improving weather.I can tell you from recent personal experience, my skills have diminished over thewinter. While I’ve ridden every month over the winter, I’m not putting the miles onthe bike like I do during the normal Indiana riding season. I’ve had to force myselfto look up and through turns, on/off ramps, etc., I’ve had to think to get my mind refocused on being on two wheels in a sea of “cagers”, and I’ve had to re-learn/reenforce my riding strategies (lane positions, following distances, brake use, etc.).Fortunately, I’ve not gotten into a situation where I had to make a no-kidding instantaneous decision or reaction where I didn’t have the luxury of time to thinkthrough my response.NOW is the time to start getting prepared for riding season! START thinking aboutriding BEFORE you head out for your first dinner/chapter ride of the season. Makethe first ride you take be to a large, empty parking lot where you can PRACTICE/RELEARN the skills that eroded over the winter. Do some swerving, stopping,weaving, and quick stopping practice. You should grab your co-rider and bring themalong too because they need refreshing too! Don’t make the first ride of the seasona “real” ride where you won’t have the opportunity for a do-over like you would in aparking lot.We also have some rider courses planned to give you the complete post-winterskills refresher.In Fort Wayne, we’re having a Trike Rider Course (TRC) 20 April. In Columbus(THANKS Lee Tieche!) we have a TRC scheduled for 4 May and an Advanced Rider Course (ARC) on 5 May.Registration info is on the Events page of IndianaonWings.org.If you can’t take a GWRRA riding course, seek out the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s advanced rider courses. They are acceptable for your Levels and may havemore class offerings than what we can provide.
