2022 MISSIONAL & WORKFORCE WORKSHOP SCHEDULETE TIRITI(By Invitation)29-31 MARCH / 17-19 MAY / 26-28 JULY / 6-8 SEPTEMBERPurpose: To explore the covenantal (kawenata) import of Te Tiriti O Waitangi,including the everyday, practical implications of its mandate and principles forthe co-determination of Te Ope Whakaroa.The workshop will include content that engages with the meta-themes of:1. WHY is the Treaty of Waitangi important to The Salvation Army?2. Reflection on stories of HOW (and WHERE) The Treaty has already beenlived and worked out within The Salvation Army.3. WHAT the bi-cultural mandate of The Treaty means personally andpractically. What can I/we do GOING FORWARD?Key Outcomes: Grapple with WHY we have a Treaty, including the impact of honouringthe Treaty for Māori hauora and societal well-being. Understand from WHERE and HOW Te Tiriti shaped relationships arealready at play within The Salvation Army (Rūnanga, He Waka Eke Noa,Te Ōhākī, Te Whare Tapa Whā etc). Management/Officers/Staff equipped to engage competently with Māorifrom within Tikanga and Te Ao Māori. To extend the cultural proficiencyof ‘our’ centres and people through ‘clear pathway(s)’ toward Te Tiritishaped relationships. A clear distinction between the Three Articles of the Treaty and thePrinciples of the Treaty. A mapping out of ‘specific’ personal and organisational practices that canbe committed to and measured over time. Our people resourced with links to pou Kaumātua and Kuia, culturalsupervisors within Te Ope Whakaora, and with (online) materials (i.e.,Dedicated SharePoint page) that can guide centres, persons into nextsteps of our relationship with the Treaty.3

2022 MISSIONAL & WORKFORCE WORKSHOP SCHEDULEFOUNDATIONS FORCOMMUNITY MINISTRIESEMERGENCY SERVICES(TBC)12-14 APRIL3-5 MAYPurpose: To equip those who workin a CM environment withfoundation skills and best practiceto provide the highest level ofservice.Purpose: This course has beendeveloped to ensure that we havesuitably trained personnel to lead aSalvation Army response.Key Outcomes: CM values and aimsidentified. Promotion of self and culturalawareness - knowing howone’s own culture andbackground informs personalpractice. An understanding ofstrengths based best practiceand personal role within thebeliefs and mission theSalvation Army Mission. Enhanced communicationand listening skills. A deeper understanding ofsafe practice including ethics,boundaries, effectivesupervision, and professionalrecord keeping.Course content includes Introduction toHumanitarian Standards, CriticalIncident Training, Safeguarding in anEmergency Environment and the NEMACivil Defence and EmergencyManagement Plan.Key Outcomes: Understand humanitarianprinciples and implementation ofSPHERE into Emergency Serviceresponse. Apply International TSA ESresponse to needs. Implement safe team practices toensure spiritual and emotionalcare and support. Identify signs and symptoms ofcritical stress within the ESresponse team. Understand and implement theNZFTS Territorial ES strategy andresponse to National Emergency.4

An understanding of the coreskills required to practiceemotional intelligence.
