Position AnnouncementThe Fort Myers Beach Fire Department is located in Southwest Lee County, Florida, coveringthe islands of Estero and San Carlos, as well as nearby areas. Our team provides services to apopulation of approximately 9,000 full time residents, over 40,000 peak season residents, andover 1.8 million visitors each year. In addition to a significant population increase in peakseason, Estero Island is a well-known and highly frequented Spring Break destination for visitorsaround the world. The Fort Myers Beach Fire Department covers a ten square mile area out offour facilities strategically placed within the District, as well as responds to many areas ofSouthwest Florida through an automatic aid and closest unit response system.The District began as a volunteer firedepartment in 1949 by the BeachImprovement Association, Inc. TheDistrict incorporated as the Fort MyersBeach Fire Control District in 1950 withan estimated population of only 2,500residents. Since, the Fort Myers BeachFire Department has become a full-servicecareer emergency response organizationprotecting the residents and visitors of thishighly sought after location.The Fort Myers Beach Fire Departmentprovides a variety of services to include amultitude of fire suppression activities,Emergency Medical Advanced Life Support(ALS) on all apparatus, ambulancetransport, technical rescue, hazardousmaterials incident response, and a variety ofother emergency and non-emergencyservices.The organization’s total annual operating budgetis nearly 14,000,000, and total expenditures anddesignated funds are approximately 21,000,000,which is primarily funded through property taxcollection, fees for services, and impact fees.Page2 of 9

Position AnnouncementThe Operations Branch manages all operational aspects of the organization, to include emergencyresponse. The Operations Branch is overseen by the Executive Assistant Fire Chief of Operations,who works closely with operational and administrative staff to execute the operational mission ofthe organization. This includes response to emergency incidents as well as non-emergencyactivities of our crews. Incorporated in the Operations Branch is the Training Division,Emergency Medical Service Division, and the Tools and Equipment Program. The OperationsBranch also oversees statistical analysis and data coordination for operational activities.Training DivisionThe Fort Myers Beach Fire DepartmentTraining Division coordinates and managesall initial, ongoing, and advanced leveltraining. This includes developmentprograms for the Firefighter, DriverEngineer, and Fire Officer. This divisionalso manages all State and nationallyrequired certifications. The TrainingDivision coordinates promotional processes, hiring processes, and major incident reviews for theorganization and other involved emergency service agencies.Page3 of 9

Position AnnouncementEmergency Medical Services DivisionThe Fort Myers Beach Fire Department Emergency MedicalServices Division (EMS) areas of responsibility include themanagement and planning of all levels of EMS delivery to includeAdvanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance transport, as well asfully staffed ALS fire apparatus to ensure the highest level of careis provided by the closest unit responding. The EMS Division alsooversees EMS education, training, equipment, supplies, andadministration of all medical services.The Support Branch is overseen by the Executive Assistant Fire Chief of Support. This branchincludes the Life Safety Division, Support Services Program, Facilities and Logistics Program,Information, Technology and Security Program, and Operational Technologies Program. Theseactivities include the many logistical, supply and maintenance related components of ourorganization, as well as facilities and grounds. In addition, this branch oversees all health andsafety components for our team.Life Safety DivisionThe Fort Myers Beach Fire Department Life Safety Division provides all prevention, communityeducation, risk reduction, and code enforcement to our community. This includes fire and lifesafety inspections, as well as building plan reviews. This division also provides a variety ofcommunity outreach functions to educate our community, keep children safe in our schools, andmuch more. This division houses the Deputy Fire Marshal, which in addition to codeenforcement and inspection programs, provides fire investigation services and publicinformation.The Administrative Branch manages everything from payroll and account payables to budgetingand forecasting finances many years in advance. The Administrative Branch is overseen by theDirector of Finance and Administrative Services. This Branch provides support to all programsand divisions through document and policy management, benefit administration, purchasingprocesses, and budgeting. The Administrative Branch also manages the organization’s humanresource department, risk management, and strategic planning.The Fire Chief oversees all of the organization’s branches and works with the Board of FireCommissioners, administrative staff, legal counsel, accountants, and fire department officers tooversee Department functions. The Office of the Fire Chief also manages public records and thelogistical components of the Board of Fire Commissioners. The Fire Chief serves as the directliaison to the Board of Fire Commissioners by managing documentation, resolutions, meetingpreparation, and other administrative considerations.Page4 of 9

This is a highly responsibleadministrative support position for the Life Safety andSupport Services Division. The Life Safety SupportAssistant works as a team member in the coordination andexecution of department administrative andlife safety responsibilities.The Life Safety and Support Services Assistant uses athorough knowledge of invoicing, collection, accountsreceivable, and billing practices to assist in the timelyprocessing of fees. Position Announcement The annual estimated Life Safety and Support Services Assistant CompensationPackage is valued at 80,310 to 97,900.(The Above Includes: Base Salary, Family Health, Dental & Vision, Florida retirement Service District contribution, Short and Long Term Disability). Base Pay: Life Safety and Support Services Assistant Salary range is 46,375 to 61,211.The starting pay range of 46,375 to 50,084 is bases on a combination of education,experience and credentials Employee and Family Healthcare: The District is proud to provide 100% EmployeeHealthcare and Full Family Health, Dental and Vision coverage at an employee co-shareof 20% of the dependent premiums, valued at an average of 25,180 annually before copay. The District also provides a pre-tax plan for the cost of medical and child carerelated expenses through a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) under the Internal RevenueService Section 125 Plan. Retirement: An excellent retirement plan is provided by the District through the FloridaRetirement Services (FRS). The employee contributes 3% of wages, and the Districtcontributes 10.00% of gross salary, equaling a total contribution of 13.00%. Additionalretirement plans are available in the form of a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, as adeduction from employee pay.
