HOW TO CONNECT THE POWER CORDUSE A SURGE SUPPRESSORYour machine, like other electronicequipment, can be damaged by suddenvoltage changes in your home’s power.Voltage surges, spikes, and noiseinterference can result from weatherconditions or from other appliances beingturned on or off. To decrease the risk ofdamaging the machine, always use a surgesuppressor with the machine.Use only a surge suppressor that is UL 1449listed as a transient voltage surge suppressor(TVSS). The surge suppressor must have aUL suppressed voltage rating of 400 voltsor less and a minimum surge dissipation of450 joules. The surge suppressor must alsobe electrically rated for 120 volts AC and 15amps. There must be a monitoring light onthe surge suppressor to indicate whetherit is functioning properly. Failure to usea properly functioning surge suppressorcould result in damage to the controlsystem of the machine and serious injuryto users.PLUG IN THE POWER CORDThe machine must be grounded. Ifit should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of leastresistance for electric current to reduce therisk of electric shock. The machine powercord has a plug with a grounding pin (seedrawing 1 on this page).overloading the circuit, do not plug otherelectrical devices, except for low-powerdevices such as cell phone chargers, into the surge suppressor or into anoutlet on the same circuit. IMPORTANT:The machine is not compatible withGFCI-equipped outlets and may not becompatible with AFCI-equipped outlets.A temporaryadapter maybe used toconnectthe surgesuppressorto a 2-polereceptacleif a properlygroundedoutlet is notavailable. The lug or wire extending from the adaptermust be connected with a metal screw toa permanent ground such as a properlygrounded outlet fox cover. Some 2-polereceptacle outlet box covers are notPlug the power cord into a surge suppressor, grounded. Before using an adapter, and plug the surge suppressor into ancontact a qualified electrician toappropriate outlet that is properly installed determine whether the outlet box cover isand grounded in accordance with all localgrounded. The temporary adapter shouldcodes and ordinances.
