LPN/Paramedic to Registered NursingProgram Information & Application ProcessThe LPN/Paramedic to Registered Nursing program is designed to assist and prepare the LPN and Paramedic tobecome a Registered Nurse. The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree incorporates prior educationalknowledge, theory and clinical practice. The program is approved by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing,Arkansas Department of Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission.Classes/Practicum will be two to three days a week according to the term and progression of the program. Onaverage eight to twelve hours are required each week. The student must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higherthroughout the program to graduate.The Nursing program has a competitive selection process and limited student program seats. Not all applicantswill be accepted into the program. Each student is required to meet all guidelines as listed below or will bedeemed ineligible to enter the nursing program.Requirements for Admission to ASU-Beebeo Submit an ASU-Beebe application for enrollment. This may be done on-line at www.asub.eduo Submit an official complete high school transcript (seven semester transcript for high school seniorswith the final transcript to follow after graduation) indicating date of graduation or copy of GED scoresor American Correspondence Certificate. Submit ALL college/university transcripts.o Submit immunization records. Provide immunization record with required MMR (including a booster,second dose for measles).Requirements for Admission to the ASUB LPN/Paramedic to Registered NurseoooooooAll prerequisites must be completed PRIOR to submitting an application for the LPN/Paramedic to RNNursing program. The prospective student must have a minimum GPA of 2.6 in prerequisites as listed forthe program and an overall GPA of 2.0. All prerequisites must be completed with a grade of C or better.Any applicant seeking transfer credit for prerequisite courses must submit official transcripts to theRegistrar’s office. Prerequisite courses in progress during the Fall application period will be consideredwith a midterm grade of “C” or higher. Conditional admission may be granted pending successful coursecompletion with a “C” or higher.The application process must be complete to be considered for admission to the program.A new application must be submitted each year. Applications will continue to be accepted until the class isfilled.o The application process will open March 1 and remain open until the class is filled. A priorityconsideration date is set for May 1, 2021. Applicants that have completed all steps of the processand qualify for acceptance will be considered for admission.All transcripts, scores and any other documentation required in the admissions process must be on file atthe time of the application to be considered complete and eligible for considerationEach applicant is required to take the HESI entrance exam specific to their program application. Pleaseensure when registering for the exam you are specific as to which program and exam you need to take.Entrance Exams are as follows:o HESI Entrance Exam – No minimum score required. Points will be awarded related to test scores. LPN: LPN to ADN HESI Entrance exam Paramedic: EMS to ADN Entrance examo Accuplacer Reading Exam – minimum score of 253 required.Testing information, instructions and dates for administration may be found on the ASUB testing centerwebpage at http://www.asub.edu/testing-services/ .

Selection Processo Selection of qualified applicants for admission is based on a point system which includes scores onrequired admission testing and prerequisite GPA.o LPN requirements:o Unencumbered LPN license in the state of Arkansas or mutual state licensure recognized by theASBN or be a recent graduate of an approved LPN program.o Complete the Elsevier Hesi LPN-ADN entrance exam with qualifying entrance score.o Example of study material are Pearson Vue EMT achieve for Paramedics or the Saunders PNNCLEX reviewo Paramedic requirements:o Must hold a Paramedic state licensure number with the Arkansas Department of Health as wellas current registration as a paramedic with the National Registry of EMTs.o Minimum of 5 months (800 hours) over the last two years. Experience must be direct patient carecentered. No hours served as an orientation to employment or related training shall beconsidered.o Complete the Elsevier HESI EMS – ADN Entrance Exam with qualifying entrance score.o Example of study material is Pearson Vue EMT achieve for Paramedics or the Saunders PNNCLEX reviewo If the applicant has been in another Nursing or Allied Health program, a letter of good standing must beprovided prior to acceptance or consideration. If the student is not found to be in good standing, thestudent information will be reviewed by the faculty board and Administration to determine enrollmenteligibility.o Anyone who applies but is not accepted for admission must reapply for consideration during futureapplication periods.o Applicants with felony charges and selected misdemeanor charges, or those with positive drugscreenings, may be denied enrollment in nursing courses. Students must be free of offenses that wouldpotentially disqualify them from working in a healthcare facility.o Admission into the clinical portion of the Nursing program is at the discretion of the clinical agencieso Special conditions apply to the admission and enrollment of international students, including a minimalTOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 500, proof of medical insurance, a signedauthorization for medical services, and proof of financial resources. Complete details of specialadmissions and enrollment procedures are available from the Admissions Office.o Applicant must be at least 18 years of age or older.o After the selection process is completed, the applicant will be notified by email of acceptance or denial.After admission status is granted to the Registered Nursing program, the student will be required to submit thefollowing:o Proof of American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR, which does not expire during programenrollment.o Proof of Tuberculin skin test which will not expire during program (Pending availability and practicumfacility requirement.)o Proof of current Tetanus injection which does not expire during program.o Proof of Varicella Immunityo Proof of Hepatitis serieso Proof of flu shoto Completion of all entrance testing requirements.o Completion of Nursing Orientationo Criminal Background check completion.o Applicants may be requested to participate in specific pre-enrollment assessments to fulfill externalagency requirements.The Arkansas State Board of Nursing maintains specific standards regarding criminal history which may disqualifyan individual from obtaining a nursing license. The State Board of Nursing requires a criminal history backgroundcheck upon application for licensure. Upon completion of the criminal background check, the IdentificationBureau of the Department of Arkansas State Police shall forward to the board all information obtained concerningthe licensure applicant in the commission of any offense. Students who have evidence of prior convictions will be

reviewed by the Director of Nursing. Students may be restricted, due to prior convictions, from certain facilitiesand may be ineligible to take the NCLEX-RN.
