Several members of the Malabar staff and students expressed fond memories of Mrs. Johnsonbefore the board recessed to the library where a plaque dedicating the library in Mrs. Johnson’s honor wasplaced in the hallway. A reception followed in the library before the board returned to the cafeteria to resume itsmeeting.The board recessed to the Library at 5:57 p.m. The board returned from recess at 6:32 p.m.Board Matters:17 - 30Resolution to approve school calendars for 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 school yearsMrs. Weber moved, seconded by Mr. Elswick to approve the school calendars for 2017-2018 and 2018-2019school years.Roll call: Mrs. Weber, Yes, Mr. Elswick, Yes; Ms. Cline, Yes; Mr. Feagin, Yes, Mrs. Forney; YesMark Manley, director of personnel, and Teresa James, personnel assistant, presented an outline of thedistrict’s Workforce Diversity Plan. It was developed by a committee that included Gary Feagin, Glenn Myers,Alice Williams, Mrs. James and Mr. Manley. Over the course of three years the comprehensive plan is designedto attract and retain employees who mirror our community’s economic, racial and ethnic diversity. Ms. Clinesaid she is “incredibly delighted” with the plan and praised the work of the committee.17 - 31Resolution to adopt Workforce Diversity PlanMrs. Forney moved, seconded by Mrs. Weber to adopt the Workforce Diversity PlanRoll call: Mrs. Forney, Yes; Mrs. Weber, Yes; Ms. Cline, Yes; Mr. Elswick, Yes; Mr. Feagin, YesTransfinder: Transportation Routing SoftwareDeb Rickert, transportation supervisor, outlined the advantages of Transfinder, routing software which she saidis superior to the current software the department is using. She said Transfinder will provide daily automaticinformation updates which will allow for more accurate routing and more accurate student counts on buses.The result will be greater efficiency and cost savings.Page 2

Mr. Kuehnle saidsubstitutes would record their attendance by entering a password at the start and end of a day, therebyeliminating the need for building secretaries to create spreadsheets. The software would save time andeliminate mistakes. Mr. Kuehnle said Frontline also would allow a move toward online time clocks to record timeand attendance and eliminate paper records that currently pass through many hands. He said he wants toimplement the time clocks first in central office to work out the kinks. Mr. Manley said Frontline would bebeneficial in creating “a much wider net” to attract and match employment candidates with district needs. Superintendent’s Report:Mr. Garverick commended Phil Mitchell of the S.A.F.E. program for receiving a 2,000 Gorman FamilyFoundation grant for books and supplies for homeless students. He said there are 213 children currentlyclassified as homeless.Mr. Garverick also commended Maggie Voedisch, K-3 adaptive physical education teacher, for securing a 5,000Gorman grant for equipment to help meet the needs of her students.He recognized Chris Japikse of Malabar for being named the Young String Teacher of the Year by the OhioString Teachers Association and Peggy Sutton of Senior High for being named the Ohio School Nurse of theYear.May 2017 Levy ReportDoug Castle, a co-chair of the district’s levies campaign, reported on the activities of the levy campaignsteering committee. He said voter approval of the two renewals on May 2 is “absolutely essential.” The levies,which would not increase taxes, generate 7.9 million annually. He said the steering committee is active inthree areas: fundraising, getting out the vote and securing volunteers. He said more information will bepublished on the levy committee’s web site.Page 3
