Sara was the loving mother ofJudith (David) Koch, Eileen (Alan) Speiwak,and Ruth Brozgal. She was the cherishedgrandmother of seven and the adored greatgrandmother of 10. When her children wereyoung she was active in Girl Scouts, deeplyinvolved in her sisterhood at Temple Beth Israel in Altoona, PA and the local Hadassahorganization. She was a graduate of PierceJr. College and in midlife used her educationto become a bookkeeper in the pharmacy ofthe Altoona Hospital and later a secretary at aMontessori school in Princeton N.J. Sarawas an avid reader, antique collector, political enthusiast, bridge and bingo player, andextraordinary baker. Sara loved people andenjoyed life. She was interned at Hyman Salomon Memorial Park in Frazier PA on October 30, 2016. He was one of two children ofEsther (Mandelbaum) and Aaron Kope (Kopelowicz). His brother had Down syndromeand passed at an early age. He lived a fascinating and fortunate life. He created and developed the field of Interventional Radiologyand was an inventor of many types of catheters used in Interventional Radiology. He wasborn in Paris, France June 3, 1927. At the ageof 10, his father sensing the impendingdanger of Hitler, moved them to London,England; where he spent his school yearsstudying amidst the London Blitz of WW II.His father’s family in Poland, were victims ofthe Holocaust and in 1942 his mother’sbrothers were picked up by French policeduring the Velodrome d’Hiver roundup anddeported to Auschwitz and killed. After thewar, he transferred from London University,Middlesex Hospital Medical School in England to New York Medical College, New York,NY, where his parents had emigrated. Shortlyafter, he became a United States citizen andwas drafted in the army as a medical officerduring the last years of the Korean War. Afterthe war he returned to NYC to begin his medical internships and met and married, MaryGrace Heller (Cope) of Englewood, NJ. In1963, after completing his Internal Medicinetraining at Memphis Veterans Hospital, associated with Baptist Memorial Hospital, in Tennessee and having 3 of his 5 children, he wasgiven an attending position at Albert EinsteinMedical Center in Philadelphia, PA, where hehad 2 more children and was given the opportunity to create, develop and expand thenew field of Interventional Radiology. At thistime, he needed someone to manufacture hisnew inventions and during a medical convention, he met William (Bill) Cook, who wasmanufacturing wire guides, needles and catheters out of his apartment in Indiana. From ahandshake agreement, Constantin was ableto manufacture his first catheter inventionand began a life long friendship. Bill Cook’scompany grew and became one of the largestinternational medical device companies in theworld, Cook Medical Inc. Constantin transferred to The Hospital of University ofPennsylvania in the '80s to expand his research career. During that time, he was awarded: The SIR Gold Medal with William Cookin 1999, New York Medical College AlumniGold Medal, 2001, as well as SIR Leaders inInnovation Award, 2004 prior to his medicalcareer retirement. He, his wife and their dog,Peris Cope, enjoyed their retirement in Bend,Oregon, but continued to do part time research and “gadgetry” at Dotter Institute inPortland, Oregon until 2005, when a strokelimited his speech and challenged his walking. In 2012, he moved back to the Philadelphia area with his wife, who hadAlzheimer’s, so his children could help carefor her. During his life he loved: Violin, Tennis, Hiking, Biking, Travel, Inventions, Classical Music and his Family.
