Academic programs at Oklahoma State University arekept relevant through continuous revision of curricula.Although the curriculum may be revised before a studentgraduates, a student who makes normal progress towardgraduation (completing a four year degree program in notmore than six years) will be held responsible for degree requirements in effect at the time of matriculation (date of firstenrollment), plus any changes that are made, so long as thesechanges do not result in semester credit hours being added ordo not prolong graduation.Matriculation occurs when a student first enrolls in anaccredited institution of higher education. A student has theoption of following the requirements that were in effect at theti me of matriculation if he or she meets all of the requirementsfor the bachelor's degree in not more than six years from dateof matriculation or adopting any or all of the new requirementsthat have been adopted since matriculation. When a student first enrolls at OSU, the requirements forthe degree programs being offered are made available. Aprospective student may obtain a detailed listing of the requirements for any degree being offered at OSU by writing tothe Office of the Registrar or to the departmental office throughwhich the degree is offered.OKLAHOMA STATE(USPS 378-410)Vol. 80, No. 2 August 1980Published twice in August and twice in September by Oklahoma State University , Room107 Whitehurst Hall, Stillwater, Oklahoma,74078. The UniversityOklahoma State University was founded in 1890 as Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College. The name was changed to Oklahoma StateUniversity ,July 1, 1957. The first classes were held on December 14, 1891. Thefirst Commencement was in 1896 with six male graduates.Oklahoma State University is located in north central Oklahoma inStillwater, a town of about 30,000 population. It is almost equal distance toTulsa and Oklahoma City. The University is coeducational and has anenrollment of approximately 26,300 students of which about 21,000 are oncampus, 3,100 at Okmulgee and 2,200 at Oklahoma City. The OSU campus is one of exceptional beauty with modified Georgianstyle architecture in all of the new buildings. The campus buildings are valuedat 100,000,000. This includes one of the largest and most modern libraries inthe entire Southwest, a large Student Union complete with hotel facilities, thenew Colvin Physical Education Center, and the Seretean Center for thePerforming Arts. While Oklahoma State University is a large multi-university, its size doesnot minimize the amount of personal attention to which each and everystudent is entitled. The individual is more than just a number in this University. OSU is structured so that all students are encouraged to identify thedepartment in which they wish to major when they first enroll. Once thestudent has identified his or her major department, he or she becomes a veryimportant individual to the faculty and advisers of that department. Since theaverage number of students majoring in any one department is less than 150,the student is never aware of the largeness of the University when he or sheseeks counsel and advice. On the other hand, the largeness of the University has many distinctadvantagesits 1,200,000 volume-library, its vast research laboratoriesand equipment, its fabulous physical education-recreation and student unionfacilities, its plush coeducational living, its outstanding Allied Arts program, its well-balanced social activities including 39 nationally-affiliated fraternitiesand sororities, and its highly qualified and nationally recognized professionalstaff. The University offers bachelor's degrees in more than 100 fields andadvanced degrees in more than 75 fields.Oklahoma State University9
