Student and Client Safety: COVID-19 CONCERNS AND PROCEDURES Our concern is to safeguard the well-being of all students, staff and clients. Students, staff or members of the public may not enter if experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness, fever or cough. Students, staff, customers must have temperatures taken and fill out screening/release form before entering school. We use social distancing standards to limit the number of people permitted in clinic and each education area. Revised scheduling format for full/ part time classes and clients to allow for more opportunities to complete courses. Students and staff in classrooms should wear masks when at all practical and maintain a 6-foot social distance. Stations, chairs and tools are sanitized in between customers. Salon clinic clients, staff and students must wear masks. When possible, students enter through front door at thebeginning of their shift and back door the rest of the day. Please make use of all plastic dividers and follow signs and floor marking to maintain a 6-foot social distance. We follow the course curriculum requirements set by the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology. We receive additionalguidance from NACCAS and the Department of Education. Courses are designed to help you pass the Ohio State Board ofCosmetology licensing exam and then successfully begin your professional beauty career. The curriculum allows forflexibility to account for variations in attendance for each student. Each student is given a two-hour orientation period aspart of the cosmetology laws and rules section of the curriculum.GRADINGThe written and practical grading standards are the same for all courses. Students must have a grade point average of 75%to graduate. Students failing to take or pass an exam with a score of at least 75% will be allowed to retake the exam.DRESS CODEStudents wear solid black pants with black shoes. You can spend up to 10% of the course length in a salonand earn school credit for the internship hours completed.STUDENT OF THE MONTH AWARDThe faculty and staff of Inner State often recognizes a Student of The Month. This award is given by the schoolmanager to a student in the school that has worked to improve their performance, has an outstandingachievement, received high grades for written or practical work, has exhibited professionalism in dealing withstudents, faculty, staff and customers. Additional factors such as timeliness, dress, citizenship, and attitude aretaken into account.GRADUATION REQUIREMENTSAll hours required for the course enrolled must be completed. The required attendance percentage is at least 67%. Thestudent must maintain an overall grade point average of at least 75%. All money owed to Inner State must be paid in full.LICENSING IN OHIOInner State helps you register for the licensing exam. We set the curriculum, organize classes and offer services tohelp you maximize your education and pass the exam. Inner State assists each student as they prepare for thelicensing examination. A work permit will allow you to work from the time you receive it until you take the exam.You must take the Ohio State Board Examination to become licensed in the state of Ohio. Students pay their own stateboard exam fees. Unless you graduate, student hours completely expire five (5) years from the day you begin school.REQUIREMENTS OF THE PROFESSIONPhysical Demands: Cosmetologists and Estheticians have long hours of standing with good posture. Nail Technicians mustsit for long periods of time. Beauty professionals must be able to communicate with clients and deal effectively with thepublic and co-workers. Licensing: Professionals in the field must be licensed by the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology.Requirements of Employers: Employers look for licensed professionals that are loyal, punctual, efficient, havegood hygiene and present themselves professionally. Strong ethics and good communication skills impress bothemployers and clients. Business: A good understanding of the business side of the profession is very important. Asan employee it will help to understand the reasoning behind many of the decisions of your supervisors. Whenworking as an independent contractor, employee, or owner, it is crucial to understand the business side of theprofession so you can make money.

By the end of the cosmetology course, each student willhave received the required hours of Ohio State Board of Cosmetology approved training. The cosmetology license is ageneral beauty license that will allow the cosmetologist to work on hair, skin or nails. A graduate of this course will be ableto take the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology examination as a cosmetologist. There are three components to thecosmetology education, theory (book work and lecture), practical (practicing on each other or mannequins), and clinical(working on actual customers). Students begin as junior cosmetology students and achieve senior status by written andpractical tests. This takes approximately 3 months or 300 hours. Students have theory at the beginning of the class day(except Saturday as a senior student) and practical or clinical throughout the rest of their day. Breaks from class areallowed and will be assigned by the instructor. Senior students are scheduled to attend on Saturday with full time studentsattending a minimum of two Saturdays. Students are tested for each chapter. Tests are primarily multiple choice, but mayalso include essay and fill in. We use the Milady Standard Cosmetology Textbook, practical workbook, theory workbookand exam review along with corresponding lesson plans and support materials. Theory is taught through a combination oflecture, handouts, videos, workbooks and reading. This course concentrates onpreparing the student for employment as an esthetician or skin care specialist. This course includes training in theory,demonstration, and practice in all aspects of facials and skin care. Students begin as junior esthetician students. They canachieve senior status through practical and written testing. This course is designed to teach the esthetics and skin care plusallow each student the opportunity to learn about the responsibilities of running a salon efficiently and effectively.
