This does not meanthat only documents that support a response decision are placed in the administrative record.Relevant documents that were relied upon in selecting the response action, as well as relevantdocuments that were considered but ultimately rejected, are included. The administrative recordalso acts as a vehicle for public participation in selecting a response action.Under section 113(K) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, andLiability Act (CERCLA), as amended by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act(SARA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is required to establish anadministrative record for every Superfund response action and to make a copy of theadministrative record available at or near the site. The administrative record must be reasonablyavailable for public review during normal business hours. Questions regarding the maintenanceof the administrative record file should be directed to:Elaine Chan, Administrative Record Coordinator, U.S. EPA (SFD-7-5), 75 Hawthorne Street,San Francisco, CA 94105-3972, Phone: (415) 972-3128.
