Publishing InformationThe California Department of Education (CDE), Instructional QualityCommission (IQC), and State Board of Education (SBE) commencedthe process for revising the visual and performing arts standards inOctober 2016. Per Assembly Bill 2862 and Assembly Bill 37, Chapter647, Education Code Section 60605.13 requires the Superintendent, inconsultation with the IQC, to recommend to the state board revisions tothe visual and performing arts content standards in the subjects of dance,music, theatre, and visual arts adopted by the state board pursuant toSection 60605.3, and to recommend new standards for the subject ofmedia arts. On January 9, 2019, the SBE adopted the California ArtsStandards for Public Schools, Prekindergarten Through Grade Twelve (ArtsStandards).This publication was edited by Tom Wyant and Alex Calinsky, CDEPress, working in cooperation with Letty Kraus, Curriculum Frameworksand Instructional Resources Division.
