It was created upon the representation of Pampanga Governors Estelito Mendoza andJuanita Nepomuceno. After its old building was rendered useless by Mt. Pinatubo’s incessant lahar flows, the unit was moved to the ClarkFreeport Zone (CFZ) in 1996 and was given its present name.Since then, UPDEPP has taken on a new character as the center of excellent higher education within the CFZ and Central Luzon in general. It hasraised its UPCAT cut-off level, improved its curricular programs, upgraded its faculty profile, and modernized its library. The unit also aims to be theregional center for research, extension and development, as well as for culture and the arts.In 2007, UPDEPP was awarded a permanent site by the Clark Development Corporation. The site consists of a 3.28-hectare lot within the CFZwhich UPDEPP envisions to transform into a bustling university town. The plan is to develop an academic complex that includes two academicbuildings with modernized facilities, two student dormitories, state-of-the-art library and research facility, gymnasium, auditorium, a studentcenter, and other amenities. Construction of the first academic building is expected to be completed in 2014.UPDEPP offers undergraduate degrees in Applied Psychology, Business Management, and Business Economics. It offers a Master of ManagementProgram on a trimestral basis.PROGRAMS OFFEREDUNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMBS Business ManagementThe Bachelor of Science in Business Management (BSBM) programaims to provide students with theories, concepts, skills, and techniquesneeded to become productive members of successful businessorganizations. The program incorporates current developments inmanagement theory and practice to enhance the competencies ofstudents in the different functional areas of business organizations andto increase their responsiveness to significant and practical aspects ofbusiness management concepts.BA Business EconomicsThe Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics (BABE) program offersits students a solid grounding in economic theories as applied to realworld issues and problems. Since the unit is located in a high-growthindustrial area, the program is particularly oriented towards theapplication of economic principles and concepts to business, industry,and regional development activities. The program seeks to produceanalysts, researchers, and other economic practitioners who canwork well in various business and investment institutions as well as ingovernment and planning agencies.The Economics Program was first offered as BA Economics and wasrevised into BA Business Economics in 2003. In 2010, a new set ofcurriculum revisions was implemented to further strengthen students’competencies in core economics subjects and to further rationalizecourses by updating course content and requirements. The revisedcurriculum was designed to equip students with the knowledge,skills, and training necessary to gain a competitive edge for betteremployment opportunities in the labor market and for running theirown business projects.

566UP Diliman Extension Program in PampangaBA Applied PsychologyThe establishment of the BA Applied Psychology curriculum (probablythe first in the country) is a response to the rapid changes taking place insociety that call for sensitive application of psychological theories. Theprogram aims to address concerns in several areas of human life andactivities. Besides maintaining the strengths of a traditional liberal artsdiscipline, the program now emphasizes the application of psychologyin the fields of organizations, community, and education. Its curriculumintroduces courses in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, SchoolPsychology, Community Psychology, and Clinical Psychology. The overviewcourses expose students to the theoretical and technical principles centralto the applied fields of psychology. Moreover, certain courses are designedto hone the students’ research skills in applied psychology.GRADUATE PROGRAMMaster of ManagementUPDEPP offers a Master of Management (MM) program (non-thesis)with a trimestral schedule. The program aims to train qualified studentsfor a professional career in the management of business companies,public agencies, and other non-profit institutions. Above all, it seeksto advance a manager’s skills in every particular field of endeavor. Italso trains managers to competently apply management theories to theenterprise’s manifold activities.ADMISSION POLICIES/REQUIREMENTSUNDERGRADUATEThe U.P. Diliman Extension Program in Pampanga (UPDEPP) adheresto the admission policies of the University.4) Submit other admission requirements including two letters ofrecommendations from former instructors, official transcript ofrecords, college clearance, and permit to transfer.Transferees from Other UniversitiesStudents with previous enrolment and credits earned from anotheruniversity who want to transfer to UPDEPP must satisfy the followingadmission requirements:1) have completed as least 33 academic units;2) have a general weighted average of 2.0 if applicants are from any oneof the top 10 CHED-recognized Higher Educational Institutions and1.75 if applicants are from any other CHED-recognized university;3) depending on whether the applicants are psychology, businessmanagement, or economics majors, have an average of at least 2.0in their major subjects and at least 2.25 in their other subjects;4) pass an interview with the Program Secretary, Program Coordinator,and faculty of the program being applied for;5) submit other admission requirements including two letters ofrecommendations from former instructors, official transcript ofrecords, college clearance, and permit to transfer.Shiftees to Another Degree Program (within UPDEPP)Students of UPDEPP who want to change their major or degreeprogram within the unit may be permitted to do so provided theycomply with the following guidelines. Students seeking transfer must:1) have a general weighted average of 2.5 from their original program;2) have good academic standing;3) submit an application letter with justification for shifting, passan interview with the Program Coordinator and faculty of theadmitting program, and comply with all other requirements foradmission into the new program.In addition, the following specific policies are implemented for:1) students seeking transfer admission from other U.P. ConstituentUniversities (CUs) and from other universities into UPDEPP;2) students seeking to shift from one degree major or program toanother within UPDEPP.In addition, Business Economics students who wish to transfer tothe Business Management program must have no failing marks inmath courses, whereas Business Management students shifting to theBusiness Economics program must have obtained a grade of 2.75 orbetter in Econ 101 (Macroeconomics) and Econ 102 (Microeconomics).Transferees from Other UP Constituent UniversitiesStudents from another UP Constituent University who havecompleted and earned credits of at least 33 academic units may beadmitted as transfer students, provided they satisfy the followingadditional requirements:1) have a general weighted average of at least 2.25 if applicant is froman undergraduate program within the UP System that does not fallunder any of the three programs offered by UPDEPP;2) for applicants from other CUs who are psychology, businessmanagement, or economics majors, have an average of at least2.00 in their major subjects and at least 2.25 in their other subjects;3) pass an interview with the Program Secretary, Program Coordinator,and faculty of the program being applied for;GRADUATEUniversity rules and regulations governing admission apply to theUPDEPP graduate program. Moreover, applicants must:1) pass the graduate admission test;2) have a Bachelor’s degree in any field;3) have at least a two-year work experience;4) pass an interview with the Program Secretary, Program Coordinator,and MM faculty;5) have proficiency in basic subjects (Algebra, Statistics, Accounting,Economics).

The test areas arequantitative processing, logic, and reading comprehension.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTStudents who fail to get the required general weighted average of2.00 may take two additional courses as approved by the Director,provided students do not repeat a course previously taken. The gradesin all subjects taken will be included, however, in computing the generalweighted average. The inability of students to obtain a general weightedaverage of 2.00 after taking the two additional courses will disqualifythem from the program.SERVICES AND FACILITIESThe unit has a library with a collection of more than 13,000 booksand 18 serial titles. Books from the UP Diliman Main Library are madeavailable to students on an interlibrary loan basis. Moreover, studentscan access e-resources (including Proquest Databases, GVRL, EBCOAcademic Research Complete, Science Direct, and others) even outsideof UP Diliman. UPDEPP library likewise has its own Online PublicationAccess Catalogue as well as its internet connection to the Main Libraryin Diliman.The Learning Resource Center (LRC) of the unit offers free tutorial tothe students of UPDEPP.The unit has two computer rooms, a laboratory, a gymnasium, aconference room and an audio-visual room.RESEARCH AND EXTENSIONThe unit conducts various studies on the development of CentralLuzon. Among its research concerns are the growth and competitivenessof signature industries of Pampanga and other provinces, culture change,and development among indigenous people in Clark and Subic. As part ofits extension services, UPDEPP faculty members assist local governmentunits in developing human resource in rural and urban developmentmanagement. They also provide technical support to policymakers inboth the executive and legislative branches of government.Moreover, the unit has instituted a Regional Development Centerthat has assisted the provincial lantern industry in forming an industryassociation to represent this Pampanga cultural industry. Currently, ithelps management students access funds for entrepreneurial projects.The UPDEPP’s Ayta Studies Center, also called Hawong Ayta Museumand Studies Center, conducts researches on the Aytas and providesfunctional literacy assistance through an alternative learning mode.CULTURAL ENDEAVORSUPDEPP recognizes the need to bring back to life and developthe culture that gives identity to the people of the region. The unitundertakes its share of cultural dissemination by organizing seminarsand conferences, launching books, setting up museums/galleries, andcompeting in local festivals. It is also in the process of setting up aKapampangan Center for Literary Studies within its campus.The UP Pampanga Chorale, organized in 2009, is actively involvedin the activities of the unit and is frequently invited to perform incommunity functions.To support the Pampanga Lantern Industry, UPDEPP promotesPampanga lanterns by participating in the annual UP Diliman LanternParade.OUTREACH PROGRAMSUPDEPP is involved in various outreach projects which provide UPstudents the chance to extend their services to people in need. Theseprojects include gift giving to the Aytas and assistance to typhoonvictims.STUDENT ORGANIZATIONSThere are 18 recognized student organizations in UPDEPP, three ofwhich are classified as academic organizations: the UP Associationof Economics Students, UP Business Management Society, and UPPsychology Society.Nine of these organizations are classified as civic, socio-cultural,socio-political, religious or sports- oriented organizations: UP CampusCrusade for Christ, UP Hijos, UP Lakan, Samahang Mag-aaral naNagkakaisa sa UPDEPP, the Graduate Students Association, League ofFilipino Students, Kabataan Partylist, Kabataang Artista sa Tunay naKalayaan, and Rotaract Club.The rest of the organizations are confraternities namely: AlphaPhi Omega, Kappa Sigma/Kappa Delta Sigma Confraternity, Pi SigmaFraternity/Pi Sigma Delta Sorority, Sigma Kappa Pi Fraternity, SigmaDelta Pi Sorority, and Tau Gamma Phi/Tau Gamma Sigma.Cultural shows and competitions, quiz bees, symposia, seminars,debate and oratorical competitions, sporting events, and outreachprograms are some of the various activities engaged in by these groups.After a 10-year hiatus, the Frontliner (the official student publicationof UPDEPP) was revived in June 2012. The editorial board came out withthe first Frontliner issue in the same month.UPDEPP also has its own College Student Council whose officers areelected by the student body every February.
