Assist with career assessment, career information, job search, and graduateschool options. Conduct comprehensive intake interviews assisting clients with resume development, interviewing skills, jobsearch action plans and self-assessment. Independently prescribe and interpret assessments for analysis and diagnosis toenhance counseling. Develop and present workshops and seminars on current career and employment related topics; e.g.,resume writing, job search, interviewing, LinkedIn, networking, major-specific career exploration and job search. Develop andpresent workshops on career development and decision-making. Create appropriate multimedia resources, handouts and writtenmaterials for all educational/training work. Coordinate career–related activities such as club events, professional panels, andpresentations.Serve as liaison/consultant to one of the Colleges; consult and collaborate with faculty, staff, and student organizations inrelevant disciplines. Provide major-specific programming services. Research labor-market/career trends and create informationresources for client use. Provide a direct link for employers to clients and faculty through services and events.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:% of Time1.Provide individual and group career counseling.40%2.Independently develop and conduct courses, workshops, seminars, guestlectures for clients covering complex, career-related subject matter.30%3.Develop strong cross-divisional working relationships on campus andcollaborate with faculty/administrators in one of the Colleges to developcareer connections, resources, presentations and career related events.25%4.Support department’s efforts to gather relevant data for program reviewand execute data-informed decision making.5%LIST OF TASKS FOR EACH MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY:1.Provide Individual and Group Career Counseling Independently analyze interests, aptitudes, abilities, values, personal traits, educational background, and personalbackground of clients, including through use of selected assessment instruments. Counsel clients through regularly scheduled appointments of individuals, groups, or outreach activities and classes. Collect pertinent data and maintain records for future work with clients. Independently assist clients with career exploration and research, by clarifying objectives and establishing goals/plans. Research online materials and introduce clients to current information including: labor market information, employerinformation, directories, resource guides, career path options, corporate annual reports, policies, products and services. Utilize a variety of approaches to assist in client job searches including presentations by employers, alumni, and othergroups; informational interviews; and mock interviews. Critically analyze clients’ work. Serve as expert regarding correct professional resume, vitae, cover letter, thank-you

letter, letter of reference, and statement of purpose formats and content.Maintain resources for client use, by keeping abreast of the latest recruiting trends and specific needs for a wide varietyof industries.Work effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds.2.Develop and conduct courses, workshops, seminars, guest lectures for clients covering complex, career-relatedsubject matter Develop and implement course syllabi for GEL 101 and/or other career development courses. Create and teach academic seminars on career development theory and job search techniques. Develop and conduct workshops, seminars and professional presentations on a wide variety of career related topicsincluding: career development and choice, resume writing, career planning, job search, business etiquette, effectiveinterviewing, career transitions, major-specific career exploration and job search strategies, as well as school to careertransitions.3.Plan and implement major-specific career-related events such as professional panels, workshops, seminars, officetours, networking events and guest lectures. Coordinate career events and discuss College-specific needs with faculty, administrators, student organizations andstudents from one of the academic colleges. Serve as the liaison to faculty and staff; interface with internal marketing staff to promote major specific events. Collaborate with Career Center Employer Relations Specialist and Recruiting & Events Coordinator to plan andimplement College-specific events. Work with faculty and administrators in the assigned college to develop career connections and resources Participate in professional organizations and work with academic departments to promote the University and itscandidates. Engage in systematic research on labor market, salary and occupational trends. Serve on University committees as necessary.4.Support department’s efforts to gather relevant data for program review and execute data-informed decisionmaking. Support assessment and evaluation of resources and services through surveys, focus groups and other methods toprovide relevant data. Report findings to internal and external campus colleagues.PROVIDES LEAD DIRECTION OF OTHERS:Undergraduate Interns or Graduate Student Career Counseling Interns when applicable.REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:1.List education and experience required Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, business, or related field, including upper division or graduate work incounseling techniques, career development theory, interpretation of vocational tests and instruments, plus three (3)years’ experience in student services field with two (2) of those years in the career services area at college level, oran equivalent combination of education and experience.Preference Master’s degree strongly preferred in career counseling, counseling, counseling psychology, vocational counseling,higher education, student affairs, or related field.2.List knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position. Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior;Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of career and vocational counseling;Knowledge of counseling development theory;Working knowledge of business and industry practices (outside of university setting);Knowledge of current career resources including client management systems (e.g. Handshake) and LinkedIn;Experience analyzing complex situations accurately and adopting effective courses of action;Experience advising students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters;

Experience determining appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals inpersonal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature;Experience interpreting and evaluating descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals orstudent organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of variousalternative courses of action;Demonstrated ability to carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions;Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of career related assessment instruments such as Strong Interest Inventory, MyersBriggs Type Indicator, Clifton Strengths and TypeFocus;Ability to demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the University community;Establish and maintain cooperative, effective relations with University employees, students, employers, and the public;Understanding of employment market trends, public relations and marketing;Experience developing and teaching educational courses, workshops, or seminars;Strong public speaking skills;Knowledge of data collection and analysis for evaluation and reporting purposes;Ability to maintain confidentiality and knowledge of relevant employment laws.3.
