JESUS’ EXAMPLE OF HELPING OTHERSIn today’s second reading Paul offers a wonderful argumentto his converts at Corinth for seeking to help those in need.He is dealing with a practical problem, arranging a collectionfor the poor of the Church of Jerusalem; but as he oftendoes, he develops an important teaching about Jesus tomake his point. After asking that they show their faith by generous gifts, hereminds them of the “gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, for your sake he became poor, sothat by his poverty you might become rich” (2 Corinthians8:9). In the Incarnation our Lord assumed our human nature, certainly becoming poor for one who is God. The ultimate gracious act of this poverty was going to the crosswith all its terrible sufferings. By this act of poverty we definitely become rich. Now our sins can be forgiven; we canshare in the very life of God through the sacraments; wecan attain eternal salvation!TODAY’S READINGFirst Reading: God did not m ak e death, nor does Godrejoice in the destruction of the living (Wisdom 1:13-15;2:23-24).Psalm: I w ill praise you, Lord, for you have rescuedme (Psalm 30).Second Reading: Your abundance should supply theneeds of the others (2 Corinthians 8:7, 9, 13-15).Gospel: Your faith has saved you (M ark 5:21-43 [2124, 35b-43]).MASS SCHEDULE AND INTENTIONSJUNE 2021MONDAYJune 28Saint Francis de SalesPARISH MINISTRIESAltar Servers/Eucharistic Ministers/Lectors and Sacristans (Scheduling)Mr. M. JUNE 27, 2021Page 6REFLECTIONSA Moment With De SalesRev. Michael S. Murray, OSFS“Jesus will remind us of the riches of healing.”Salesian PerspectiveThirteenth Sunday in Ordinary TimeJune 27, 2021Today’s Gospel offers us two examples of Jesus reaching out to the poverty of human beings and givingthem the richness of life. Both Jairus and the woman sufferings from a bloodflow come to Jesus with great hope and faith andhumble themselves before him on their knees. Jesusreceives each of them with great gentleness. When hespeaks to the woman, he calls her “daughter” and publicly recognizes her as cured by her faith and now restored to cleanness in the community. Then, Jesus comes to the home of Jairus and takeshim and his wife out of the din of the mourners intotheir daughter’s room. There, Jesus speaks gently tothe young woman, takes her by the hand as she isrestored to life, and instructs her parents to give hersomething to eat. Both the unclean woman and the young girl now sharein the richness of life that Jesus gives. While you and I realize that our God has made us inhis image, we also recognize our poverty when left onour own. We have come to know the gracious act ofour Lord Jesus Christ: though he was rich, he becamepoor like us, so that by his poverty we might becomerich. By Baptism, we were washed clean and restoredto the fullness of God’s life and love. By God’s favor,we have that richness within us.Each day we share more fully in God’s life here in theEucharist. Jesus takes us by the hand and walks withus as we journey with him to our Father’s home. Heinvites us to take the hand of others and share thisrichness of life together, as sisters and brothers.Whenever we find ourselves tempted to dwell on ourpoverty as human beings, Jesus invites us to kneelbefore him and ask him to touch us with his mercy andlove. Jesus will remind us of the riches of healing andredemption that are ours. Then he will take us by thehand and enable us to walk with him as his enrichedbrothers and sisters.Interested in learning about the Catholic Faith?Want to know more about joining the Catholic Church?RCIA Registration onSunday, August 8th after 9am and 11am Masses (Rooney Hall)What is RCIA? Dewane, Bishop of the Diocese of Venice inFlorida, has proclaimed a “Year of St. Joseph” until March 19, 2021. Pope Francis has now requested the entire theCatholic Church celebrate a year of honoring St. Joseph as well, so the year will continue through December 8, 2021.To you, St. Joseph, we bring all the fears and anxieties that weighs us down. This pandemic has attacked God's people bringing much illness, sorrow and death. We ask you, dearest St. Joseph, to be our guide along this very dark path, for youare the model of faith, courage and fidelity that we need so desperately.May the Lord send forth the purifying fire of the Holy Spirit, to end this outbreak ofdisease and renew the hearts of the faithful. Guide us to the ImmaculateHeart of Mary, your beloved bride, and to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the hope of allhumanity. O St. Joseph, pray ceaselessly for us during this time of suffering, fearand great mourning. May this current pain inflicted upon mankind be transformedby the power of Christ's cross and lead to a new springtime of hope and devotion.Amen.Pedro de la CruzeThis “Year of St. Joseph” also coincides to commemorate the 150th anniversary ofSt. Joseph being solemnly declared Patron of the Catholic Church by Pope Pius IX in hisdecree Quemadmodum Deus.Live Jesus Forever and Ever Amen!

JUNE 27, 2021Page 8Parish Office and Chapelare closed onFriday, July 2thandMonday, July 5thIndependence DayHolidayAdopt a Senior OblateThe Adopt a Senior Oblate programwas born out of a great need thatarose during the pandemic. Withmany Oblate priests and brothersaging, serious measures were takento protect them at our retirementhome in Childs, MD. Strict quarantineprocesses were implemented, and novisitors were permitted. We are blessedthat no one in the Oblate communitycontracted the virus. The unfortunate effect, that continues duringthe transition phase, is that our older priests and brothers remain isolated, lonely, and feeling cut offfrom the world.Adopt a Senior Oblate helps thesemen by providing them with directoutside contact. You can be the onein the "outside world" supportingthem and be the someone specialwhom an Oblate priest or brotherprays for each day. This offers theretired men a greater sense of purpose as they feel they are contributing in a meaningful way to someone'slife. The added benefit for the Oblates isthat program fees help meet thecost of senior care and medical ex-penses. These have been a strugglebecause of effects the pandemic hashad on the economy and the downturn in charitable giving.Perhaps a former teacher or parishpriest? Once we receive your Adopta Senior Oblate enrollment, we willsend you a biography of your adopted Oblate. You will also receive contact information so you can send a personal card or note to him, along with anyintentions you wish for him to pray. For questionsormore information, please send inquiries toinfo@oblates.orgorcall Brother Bob at410-398-3057.In gratitude for your faith and friendship, your adopted Oblate will prayfor you each day for a year, at dailymass, and prayers of the community, as well as during his privateprayer devotions. You can choose a retired Oblate already living at Childs or from one ofour residences around the province.
