By doing so he applies special graces from Godupon that person or intention. Similar to how we are ableto intercede for others by our personal prayers, theChurch is able to intercede for us through the celebrationof the Mass. However, since the Eucharist is the “sourceand summit of the Christian life” the Mass possess apower that our personal prayers do not. The practice ofoffering Mass for particular intentions is an ancient one, dating back to the early Church. Pope Paul VI said, “TheMass is the most perfect form of prayer!” It has immensepower. Countless miracles and conversions haveoccurred throughout the centuries by offering Masses fora specific intention or person.Direct bulletin updates tostaff(at)stmaryscathedral.orgREADINGS FOR THE WEEKMonday:Acts 14:5-18; Ps 115:1-4, 15-16; Jn 14:21-26Tuesday:Acts 14:19-28; Ps 145:10-13ab, 21;Jn 14:27-31aWednesday: Acts 15:1-6; Ps 122:1-5; Jn 15:1-8Thursday:Acts 15:7-21; Ps 96:1-3, 10; Jn 15:9-11Friday:Acts 15:22-31; Ps 57:8-10, 12; Jn 15:12-17Saturday:Acts 16:1-10; Ps 100:1b-3, 5; Jn 15:18-21Sunday:Acts 15:1-2, 22-29; Ps 67:2-3, 5-6, 8;Rv 21:10-14, 22-23; Jn 14:23-29MissionStatementThe parishionersof St. Mary's Cathedral Parish areSAINTSAND SPECIALOBSERVANCESproudto live, profess, andSundaygrow in ourCatholic faith through words andSunday:Fifthof Easterdeeds. We evangelizeteaching, sanctifying, and serving our parishWednesday:St. byJohnIandFriday:the greater community.St. Mary'sSt. BernardineofCatholicSiena Cathedral is a historicdowntownparish andseat of the Dioceseof ColoradoSprings. To "light a candle forsomeone" indicates one's intention to saya prayer for another person, and thecandle symbolizes that prayer. Pray for aspecial intention, and ask for blessings forthat person. Please do not move the votivecandles from one glass to another. If there is a metal disk from apreviously burned candle at thebottom of the votive cup, then asecond candle placed on top willunbalance it in such a way that theflame will break the glass. In 2005, a Columbarium was completedin St. Mary’s plaza courtyard to the east of the Sanctuary. The missionof St. Mary’s Cathedral Columbarium Ministry is to provide to theCatholic faithful of the Diocese of Colorado Springs and their familymembers a final resting place consecrated and conserved in a spirit ofdignity and reverence for loved ones at rest. As Catholics, we begin ourlives in the back of the church at the Baptismal font. We spend our liveswithin our church facing forward to the Altar. How fitting to complete ourexistence here by remaining on the church grounds where it all began. There is great consolation in having a loved one at rest near their church.Family and friends often stop by for a prayer or meditation on their wayto or from Mass. The cost of a niche is 2,400. Many have purchasedniches for future use in order to lock in their spot. I assistedBishop Sheridan with a Confirmation Mass at another parish, celebrated the Saturday evening Mass, and the three Sundaymorning Masses. The deacons preached, which saved me fromlosing my voice from so many Masses! I attended the St. Mary’sHigh School Gala Saturday evening, which was a wonderfultime. On Sunday afternoon for the Divine Mercy Devotion, wehad ten priests hearing confessions for over two hours. BishopGolka’s afternoon Mass was completely full. Our Divine MercySunday was just like before covid, packed. I told Bishop Golkathat this devotion was probably St. Faustina’s way of gettingback at a lazy priest. This past week, they have been finishing the stain and varnishon the sanctuary floor. There are still a few finishing touches tothe construction project: a new sacristy cabinet, a new sacristydoor, access panels to behind the altar, repairs to the floor inthe crossing, painting the baseboards, the relocation of thehanging sanctuary lamp, and the updates to the sound system.PRAYER FOR CONFIRMATION CANDIDATES:Lord, You send out Your Spirit to touch the hearts of allpeople, so that they may believe in You and in Jesuswhom You sent. Look kindly on all our candidates forConfirmation as they listen to Your voice. Open theirhearts to Your Spirit and bring to fulfilment the good workthat You have begun in them. As we prepare thesecandidates for Confirmation, make each of us aninstrument of Your love. Teach us to appreciate what isholy in others, and to be patient with what we do notunderstand. Deepen our faith in the Gospel and help usto pass it on by our example. We pray that You willcontinue to guide us and sustain us. Through Christ ourLord,Amen.Adult Religious Educa on.Please join us after the 9:00am Mass on Sunday! Upcomingclasses are on May 1, 8 and 15. Our topic will be St. Paul’sletter to the Romans. These meetings are usually a blend ofcontinuing education, presentations from diocesan offices, andstrategic planning. It is not a retreat. Do not call it a retreat. There is nothing retreat-like about them. Because of themeeting, we will not have weekday Masses from Monday, May2nd, through Thursday, May 5th. We will have one Mass onFriday, May 6th, at 12:10pm celebrated by Bishop Golka.Because the weather is getting warmer, we will have a cleanupday for the grounds on Saturday, May 14, 8am-11am.
