2AB1NCC1.1HSQ NCC DocumentationAB1NCC (Non-redundant Configuration)Figure 1 Non-redundant PLC System Data Flow Diagram (AB1NCC)AB1NCC is the Network Communication Controller (NCC) used with Allen-Bradley PLC-5programmable logic devices (for example, an AB PLC-5 /80E unit or SLC500 unit). It is thesoftware module that enables communication between the HSQ computer and the AllenBradley PLC-5 device over an Ethernet connection. The AB1NCC is a generic interface for MISER, Version 6.06. It has a customized front endthat receives point values from a variety of hardware sources and standardized NCC modulesfor updating MISER’s database. The front-end I/O routines implement TCP protocol to provide peer-to-peer communicationat the highest possible throughput from the available medium and to assure the quality of datatransmission. Polling is performed by sending a query message for each point type. Theresponse message is the status of value for all points of the same type. If the number of pointsis large, the query is sent in two or more messages.HSQ TechnologyAugust 20, 2001

HSQ NCC DocumentationAB1NCC3A unique 32-bit IP Internet address identifies each programmable logic device on an IPnetwork. This Internet address (IP address) is assigned to the PLC by the user, within a rangeof allowable addresses. The PING (Packet InterNet Groper) program can be used on TCP/IP networks to testdestination node reachability. To perform a ping test, a local node sends an ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) echorequest message to a remote node, and then waits for a response message in return. If thereply message is not received within a set period of time, PING times-out, and the remotenode is deemed to be “unreachable.”PLC-5 units respond to PING messages of the following form (entered at a command-lineprompt): PING 192.1.0.10where "192. 1. 1. 10" is the IP addressAugust 20, 2001HSQ Technology

Anyline starting with an ‘!’ anywhere in the file will also be considered a comment line.Column 1 represents the unit address of the PLC unit. Column 2 is a Point Type that could beAI, DI, AO, SP, or DO. MISER address range is specified in Columns 3 & 4. PLC file typesare specified in Column 5 and are listed as N for integer files, B for bit files or S for statusfile. File number (f) is specified in Column 6 and can be in the range 3-999. Column 7represents the first element number in PLC files that corresponds with the first specifiedMISER address. The element number can be a word (w) number, (0-999), if it is preceded by(:).Example:Nf:wThe element number can be a bit (b) number, (0-15999), if it is preceded by (/).HSQ TechnologyAugust 20, 2001
