BULLETINTerm 1 Week 7Friday 15 March 2019TemptationWhat’s on in Term 1 2019I’ve been watching MKR over the years and have marvelled atsome of the terrific food and crummy comments.WEEK 7:Fri 15 MarAnd as the emotions simmer and flow more than any LambSamosa or Runny Egg Ravioli, it’s clear that I have a lot in commonwith the contestants .NONE OF THEM COOK BY THE BOOK!I haven’t seen a recipe yet!As a measure once and cut three times kind of guy, I don’t tend tocook using a recipe. Cooking is an art, not a science that isunless you are making a Nutty Pumpkin Bread with Poppy andSesame Seeds in a Thermomix. And it seems to me that people generally fall into two categories –those who stick to the book and those who don’t. In this week’sbible focus story we catch a glimpse of how important it can be tostick to the book, especially when the devil is involved with atempting loaf of his own.In Luke Chapter 4 (our bible focus story this week) Jesus heads westand is tested by the devil. Hungry after fasting for 40 days, He turnsto the Book of Life for the Bread of Life. Each time the tempter triesto snare Him, Jesus turns to the source of all solutions, The Word.I think the devil takes us to the edge of the cliff these days as well ‘If you are a child of God, why do bad things happen to you ’It’s a great question and one that has tested me time and timeagain. The only answer I can say is‘It is written ’ and thenseek the answer from thebook of best recipes forhealthy living – The Word.Daryl Trigg11 Lyndoch Road Gawler East SA 5118T: (08) 8522 5740E: mail@ilsg.sa.edu.auW: www.ilsg.sa.edu.auFri 15 MarCarers Picnic for F, 1, 2& 3’s after schoolWine & Cheese Night7.30-10.30pmWEEK 8:Mon 18 Mar Assembly 2.45pm withYear 4Fri 22 MarWorship & Praise 9amFri 22 MarYear 5 excursion toAdelaideFri 22 MarCarers Picnic for Yr4,5 & 6’s after schoolSun 24 Mar Open Day at 3pmWEEK 9:Tues 26 & Thurs 28 MarParent / Teacher InterviewsWeds 27 Mar Carers Cookie DayFri 29 MarWorship & Praise 9amWEEK 10:Weds 3 Apr Parent / TeacherInterviewsThurs 4 & Fri 5 AprilYear 2 CampFriday 5 Apr Worship & Praise 9amWEEK 11:Thurs 11 Apr Carers Sausage LunchDayFri 12 AprWorship & Praise 9amEnd of Term 1TERM 1 SCHOOL HOLIDAYSTERM 2 RETURNS MONDAY 29 APRIL

The Challenge is organised by CSIRO and is partof an international initiative with the goal of promoting computational thinking amongststudents. This type of thinking involves a number of skills including Pattern Recognition, Logic andAlgorithms. Well done to all the children who participated this time round. I am lookingforward to the next challenge later in the year. From the students point of view: The Bebras Challenge was a series of questions, mostly involving logical problem solving skills. We had to answer 15 questions individually or in groups working together before the time ran out.Our favourite part of the challenge was answering the really difficult coding question where wehad to guide a robot through a special maze. We found it really interesting and lots of fun.Makayla Preece and Chloe PollittGYMKHANA EVENT - Ponies and kids everywhere! Last Friday 9 Immanuel students participated in the Interschool Gymkhana at Trinity College. This is the 3rd year we have entered this competition. Riders came from Clare, Burra, and all overtown. It was an excellent turnout. Our riders represented the school and tried to win ribbons by riding their ponies and following patterns. All of our riders were really good and improved from last year and got a lot of ribbons. Everyone from Immanuel had a very positive attitude and tried their hardest even when theponies weren’t behaving.Immanuel received second place in the grand parade at lunch and all our riders werein the Topsy Ring.We also had some students attend as non-riders (Aimee, Chloe and Emilie) who did agreat job helping on the day. We hope they can participate next year.We want to thank Mrs Roberts and Mrs Parish for making the day happen and all of theparents who took time out of their day to take us and our ponies to the event and for braidingthe ponies up.Thanks everyone - staff, parents and our riders:Angus, Ella , Ellie D, Ellie M, Eliza, Jedison, Keira, Lily, Makaydee

DID YOU HAVE PANCAKES FOR BREKKIE ON SHROVE TUESDAY?Tuesday 5th March was SHROVE TUESDAY. Australians celebrate it as PANCAKE DAY.At Immanuel over 400 Pancakes were cooked and served for STUDENTS andPARENTS.Shrove Tuesday is the last day before Ash Wednesday and is the last daybefore the period of Easter known as Lent.Traditionally Shrove Tuesday was a day for gluttonous celebrations to use upluxurious foods that many people would forgo during the Christian season ofLent. Thanks Mr Trigg, members from Gawler Lutheran Church and P&F for helping.YEAR 2’s VISIT THE GAWLER CIVIC CENTRECentral idea:Community needs influence the design and management of spacesLines of inquiry:The features of spacesThe significance of different spacesHow communities design spaces for different purposesThe Year 2 classes continued with their inquiry in this unit by visiting the newGawler Civic Centre. They looked at the many different design features andhow old and new have been combined to create spaces which cater for awide range of community activities. We are very grateful to Ebony Steadman at the Civic Centre, for arranging thetour and visits by our Year 2 and our Year 6 students.

YEAR 3 Unit of Inquiry and CAMPOur Year 3 classes have been working on a unit of inquiry with the central idea: People are connected to placesin different ways. The unit is based on the theme, Where we are in place and time.As part of the learning for these units students went on an overnight camp to Monarto Zoo (Indaba) last week.Their first stop was at Old Tailem Town where they spent time finding out about how the first Australian Settlersused to live. Students came dressed in olden day fashion and had a look around the pioneer village which isdecked out with 110 buildings including homes, shops, an old school house and police station.Next stop was at Monarto Zoo. Students went on a Safari trip, saw the giraffes being fed, saw Tasmanian devils, raked up leaves for the bush turkeys nests, made passports, built cubby’s, did a night walk and collected bisonpoo too! Great Fun! A BBQ was cooked and served for tea. Yum!It was an engaging, exciting camp and a great opportunity for students to getinvolved in their learning in a very real way.
