INTRODUCTIONCareer Education is defined by the Ohio State Departmentof Education as a program which endeavors, through the regularcirriculum, to provide all youth in the school with motivationtoward the world of work, orientation to the many job opportunitiesavailable, and exploration of occupations consistent with individualinterests and abilities which help youth benefit from and plan forpre-professional instruction or vocational education.This curriculum guide has been prepared by the WilloughbyEastlake Career Education Component Committee.The activitiesdescribed herein have been successively implemented by teachers intho Willoughby-Eastlake school system.As new activities aredesigned the Component Committee will expand this manual andinclude those practices which have been found to be successful.The intention of the committee is not that every studentparticipate in the activities suggested or that every teacherutilize them.The activities are presented with the hope that theymay stimulate you, the teacher, in developing interesting andproductive Career Education experiences for your students.Therole of the committee is to facilitate career-related activitiesand disseminate information to fellow educators through this guide.-I-

CAREER ORIENTATIONThe Ohio Career Development Model at the 7th and 8th gradelevel, career orientation, states that students are to be exposedor oriented to the fifteen U.S.O.E. occupational clusters.As a strategy to orient all 7th and 8th grade students tothe occupational clusters, each subject area has been given theresponsibility of a specific cluster or clusters.(See attachedchart "Career Orientation SeqUencing of Occupational Clusters.")Within each subject assigned cluster, strategies have beendeveloped to aid the classroom teacher.The following strategieshave a developmental objective, related behavioral objectivesand activities described to aid the teacher.- 29
