KeyElementsUsed in theCollectionandSubmissionof CTE DataSchool Codes for the Exchange of Data (SCED) Course CodeThe School Codes for the Exchange of Data (SCED) is a five-digit course codeused for classifying course content. For any course to be counted as a CTEcourse it most have a MSDE-approved CTE SCED. In Maryland, the SCEDSubject Areas for CTE courses fall into 17 subject areas (02, 03, 04, 05, and10-22). And, all approved CTE SCED Course Numbers always begin with thenumber 9.Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) CodeThe Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) is a six-digit code thatrepresents specific instructional programs. CTE outcome data (CTEconcentrator, TSA, CTE completer) is only captured for students reported withan MSDE-approved CTE CIP code.Technical Skill Assessment (TSA) CodeTechnical Skill Assessments (TSA) are a measure of a CTE concentrator’stechnical skill attainment. The six-digit TSA code uniquely identifies each TSA.TSA data can only be captured for students with a MSDE-approved TSA code.9

CTE Enrollment Data Reporting Requires SCED Subject Area Code, SCED CourseNumber, and LSS Course Code. Only student enrollments in MSDE-approvedCTE courses assigned with an MSDE-approvedSCED course code will be counted in the State’sannual reporting of CTE participants. LSS Course Code reported in the SCGT fileMUST align with the LSS Course Code reportedin the Maryland Course Catalog and the LSSCourse Catalog.10

CTE Concentrator Data Reporting Requires CTE CIP Code and CTE Concentratordata elements. Includes any student who was ever identifiedas a CTE concentrator. Students must be reported with a MSDEapproved CTE CIP code for a student to becounted in the State’s annual reporting of CTEconcentrators.11

Math and Reading/Language ArtsAttainment Data Reporting Math-proficient students counted with a proficiencylevel of 4 on MCAP Math assessments (Algebra I,Algebra II, or Geometry), 520 on the Math SATassessment, or 3 on the Alternate Math HighSchool assessment. Reading//Language Arts-proficient studentscounted with a proficiency level of 4 on MCAPEnglish language arts Grade 9, 10, or 11assessments, or 3 on the Alternate Englishlanguage Arts High School assessment. Only students identified as a CTE concentrator, reported with a MSDE-approved CTE CIP Code, andan Exit Status of W or C are counted in Perkins CorePerformance Indicator calculations for Math andReading/Language Arts Attainment.12

Technical Skill Assessment and IndustryCertification Data Reporting Requires CTE CIP Code, CTE Concentrator, TSAResult, and TSA Code data elements. Only MSDE-approved TSAs with assigned TSAcodes are counted in the State’s tally of TSAs. Student must be reported with a MSDEapproved CTE CIP Code and be identified as aCTE concentrator for a student to be counted. Only TSAs identified as a RecognizedPostsecondary Credential (RPC) are counted asindustry certifications. Only students reported with an Exit Status of Wor C are counted in Perkins Core PerformanceIndicator calculations.13

CTE Completion Data Reporting Requires High School Program CompletionStatus (HSDC), Exit Code and Exit Status (EOYAttendance file). Students should be identified with an 02 (metCTE Completer Course Requirements) or 03(met both USM requirements and CTECompleter Course Requirements) . Student must be reported with an Exit Status ofC and Exit Code of 60, 62 or 70. Any student identified as a CTE completershould also be identified as a CTE concentrator.14
