Student Technology Fee CommitteeMinutes – February 18th 2020LA Building First Floor Conference RoomMembers in attendance: CIO Ron Solomon (RS) - Chair, IT ProjectManager John Warren (JW) - Co-Chair, VC of Finance CorlinLeBlanc (CL), Dean of Students Dr. Donavan Johnson (DJ),Director of Student Programs Tommy Morris (TM), SGA PresidentTara Mitchell (TaM), SGA Vice President Melanie Rubin (MR), SGASecretary Cassidy Guidry (CG), SGA Treasurer Raeleonne Owens(RO), Student Jarrell Jingles (JJ), Pharmacy Tech InstructorCardice Sylvan (CS), Allied Heath Dean Dr. Elaine Vallette (EV)Approval of minutes: JW asked for approval of the meetingminutes from last December 2019. TaM motioned that the minutesbe approved and MR seconded the approval.Open Issues Discussed: JW opened the meeting to discuss the first two agenda itemsand explained that it was understood that we were stillwaiting on the Student Center remodel to be moved furtheralong before anything would be decided for the chargingstation and the messaging system for SGA. JW explained thatthe charging stations would be used to secure and chargestudent devices while in class if they choose are charge atthe tables their currently at in the dining area. JWexplained there are various options for pricing with thecharging units depending on branding from the company orour own BRCC branding. (this was the same discussion as inour October 2019 Meeting)

JW introduced the budget to the group and turned themeeting over to CL to explain any questions the committeemay have regarding the budget. TM asked what the StudentTech Fee is per credit hour. RS explained that it’s 5 anhour and it’s capped at 12 hours so the most a studentwould pay per semester is 60. CL explained that thebalance available is as of today and the balance as oftoday is 1,300,000.00New Business: JW introduced Pharmacy Tech instructor Cardice Sylvan andher supervisor Elaine Vallette, then turned the meetingover to CS. CS went over her course curriculum and why theQS/1 software is needed in her course. The total cost forthe application 3,435.00 and a recurring monthly cost of 50.00 for PC and software support. RO asked if there was areason that BRCC’s IT staff doesn’t maintain that system.JW explained that because it’s not BRCC equipment andsoftware that it’s typically common place for the companyto maintain that equipment for the college. RS brought up the PTEC program is requesting a studentcomputer lab of 35 PCs at the Central site. Total cost forthe 35 PCs is 27,933.85. RS explained that the data dropsand furniture is already in place and it just needs PCs.The vote to approve/disapprove is below:o Tara Mitchell – Approveo Melanie Rubin – Approveo Tamerick Zachary – Approveo Raeleonne Owens – Approveo Jarrell Jingles – Approve RS brought up the fact that we’re needing to purchase newCitrix VDI licenses for all the sites that thin clientstudent PCs. The new licenses are to move the Citrixenvironment into the cloud which lessens the infrastructureand equipment cost on site and allows for updates to have amore seamless and uninterrupted integration.
