The section has enhanced thedissemination of research through podcastsand film.Literatures of EnglishWhile the literature and literary theory of theAnglophone Caribbean and its diaspora remaincentral on the research agenda of theLiteratures in English section, other researchstrengths include African and South Asianliteratures, literary linguistics, Shakespeare inpostcolonial contexts, and gender andsexuality.The Literatures in English section is part of theDepartment of Literary, Cultural andCommunication Studies (LCCS). Thesection has eight permanent members of staffteaching on the undergraduate andpostgraduate levels as well as in theMFA Creative Writing programme. The sectionis a leading centre for research and teaching inLiteratures in English in the region, and thecurrent staff build on the legacy ofpioneers in West Indian literary scholarshipsuch as Professors Emeriti Kenneth Ramchand,Gordon Rohlehr, Barbara Lalla and FunsoAiyejina.The University of the West Indies supports theresearch activities of permanent members ofstaff by providing study leave, special leave forscholarly purposes, and sabbatical leave, aswell as offering funding for research trips,fieldwork, institutional visits, conferenceparticipation and organization, and researchassistants.
