This course builds on the foundation of lifesavingBLS skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous,high-quality CPR.This advanced course highlights the importance ofhigh-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition and intervention ofcardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes(ACS).Intended Audience:The ACLS Course is designed for healthcare professionalswho either direct or participate in the management ofcardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascularemergencies. This includes personnel in emergencyresponse, emergency medicine, intensive care and criticalcare units such as physicians, nurses, and paramedics, aswell as others who need an ACLS course completion cardfor job or other requirementsPrerequisites:Participants must possess a current American HeartAssociation Basic Life Support card. Participants mustalso possess a current American Heart Association ACLSprovider card in order to register for an ACLS renewalcourse.Course Content Basic life support skills, including effective chestcompressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use ofan AED Recognition and early management of respiratory andcardiac arrest Recognition and early management of peri-arrestconditions such as symptomatic Bradycardia Airway management Related pharmacology Management of ACS and stroke Effective communication as a member and leader of aresuscitation teamCourse FormatsACLS can be delivered in 2 formats to meet the needs ofstudents and offer flexibility for Instructors. All formatsinclude the same learning objectives and result in thesame course completion card. Instructor-led TrainingInstructors deliver both the cognitive portion of trainingand the psychomotor component of thorough skillspractice and testing in a classroom setting. Paediatric AdvancedLife Support (PALS)Course Description:The AHA's PALS Course has been updated to reflect newscience in the 2015 AHA Guidelines for CPR & ECC.In the AHA’s advanced paediatric course, students learn howto use a systematic approach to quickly assess, identify theunderlying cause, and treat paediatric patients in emergencysituations. Students interact with real paediatric patient cases, realistic simulations, and animations to assess and treat thesepaediatric patients. This includes applying basic life support, following PALS treatment algorithms, and practicing effectiveresuscitation skills and team dynamics. Through acombination of cognitive learning and psychomotor skillspractice, the PALS Course improves students’ confidence andskill levels for delivering effective emergency paediatric care. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of careprovided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting inimproved outcomes.Intended Audience:The PALS Course is for healthcare providers who respond toemergencies in infants and children. This includes personnelin emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive careand critical care units such as physicians, nurses, paramedicsand others who need a PALS course completion card for jobor other requirements.Prerequisites:Participants must possess a current American HeartAssociation Basic Life Support card. Participants must alsopossess a current American Heart Association PALS providercard in order to register for a PALS renewal course.Course Content High-quality Child CPR AED and Infant CPR Recognition of patients who do and do not requireimmediate intervention Recognition of cardiopulmonary arrest early andapplication CPR within 10 seconds Apply team dynamics Differentiation between respiratory distress and failure Early interventions for respiratory distress and failure Differentiation between compensated anddecompensated (hypotensive) shock Early interventions for the treatment of shock Differentiation between unstable and stable patientswith arrhythmias Clinical characteristics of instability in patients witharrhythmias Post–cardiac arrest managementCourse FormatsPALS can be delivered in 2 formats to meet the needs ofstudents and offer flexibility for healthcare organisations andInstructors. All formats include the same learning objectivesand result in the same course completion card. Instructor-led TrainingConducted in the classroom and supported with video andpresentation technology, Instructors deliver courses designedto include both the cognitive portion of training and thepsychomotor component of thorough skills practice andtesting. Blended Learning – HeartCode PALSStudents complete online, self-paced instructional lessons inwhich they assess and treat paediatric patients in virtualhealthcare settings. Once the online portion has beencompleted, students attend an Instructor-led hands-onsession focused on skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing.Course Materials:All Students must have the current PALS Provider Manual (includes PALS Pocket Reference Card) or PALS ProviderManual eBook (includes PALS Digital Reference Card).
