LEICESTERLocated in the centre of England, Leicester is wellconnected to major cities such as London, Nottinghamand Birmingham. Leicester is less than half anhour from East Midlands International Airport, andBirmingham, Luton and London Stansted airports areall within reach. There are also good transport linkswith London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports.As a city university, the DMU campus is less thanfive minutes’ walk from hundreds of shops, cafés,restaurants, pubs, clubs, cinemas, gig venues and aworld-class theatre. Leicester has been named asone of the best cities in which to live and work inthe UK, according to the 2016 Good Growth forCities Index.SPORTLeicester City defied all expectations to be crowned champions of thePremier League and Leicester Tigers are one of the most successfulclubs in English rugby. ACCOMMODATIONAll exchange students at DMU are guaranteedaccommodation at our Liberty Court halls ofresidence (close to campus) if they complete theirapplication before the given deadline.All of our halls are self-catered and fully furnished,offering shared kitchens, laundry facilities andinternet access. With on-site or on-call security, hallsalso have on-site managers, CCTV and/or electronicdoor entry systems.The price of accommodation is likely to range from 118 to 130 per week for an en suite room.If you prefer to find private rented accommodation,SULETS is the recommended lettings agency and isjointly owned and run by De Montfort and LeicesterStudents’ Unions. SULETS offers a fair and transparentservice to all students, and there are no agency, registrationor reservation fees to pay.FACILITIESDMU has invested 136 million transforming itscampus into one of the finest higher educationcomplexes in the country. STUDENT SUPPORTDMU is a friendly and welcoming university thatoffers support, advice and guidance to exchangestudents whilst at DMU.EXCHANGE STUDENT SUPPORTWe have dedicated staff within the Global Mobility Office(studentexchange@dmu.ac.uk), located in PortlandBuilding, providing support before, during and afteryour time at DMU. In cooperation with the InternationalStudent Support Team exchange students can benefitfrom services such as international welcome week, airportpick-ups and a ‘buddies’ scheme which matches you with acurrent DMU student to help you settle in.FACULTY SUPPORTEach faculty has its own Student Advice Centre, the first pointof call for all learning support enquiries. They help with printingand binding work, lending equipment and offer advice on ITsoftware and e-learning resources. This is also where you handin and collect coursework.DISABILITY SUPPORTWe want students to have a high-quality experience and reach theirfull potential during their time at DMU. Our Disability Advice andSupport (DAS) Team offers services tailored to the specific needs ofstudents with physical and sensory disabilities, medical conditions andSpecific Learning Differences (SpLD).MENTAL HEALTHWe welcome students with mental health conditionsand make every effort to deliver the support they need to reach their fullpotential. We ask students to notify our Mental Health Inclusion Team assoon as possible so it can help to manage and minimise the impact of anymental health difficulties on studies and also to guide students towards themany support services available.RELIGIOUS SUPPORTThere is both a Christian prayer room and a Muslim prayer room (with washingfacilities) on campus. Anyone can visit the chaplaincy for non-denominationalreligious support advice alongside spiritual, pastoral, moral and social care, tostudents of all faiths and none.

GETTING INVOLVEDDE MONTFORT STUDENTS’ UNIONWhilst on exchange at DMU we encourage you to actively engage with theactivities, clubs and societies that belong to DSU. Being part of a society is agreat way to integrate into UK student life and meet like-minded individualsNot only do societies offer a unique platform to make friends, learn newthings and have fun, being part of a society means you could win awards,attend conferences, ceremonies and gain qualifications.SPORTExchange students can take advantage of discounted rates at our QEIILeisure Centre, which boasts a 25-metre swimming pool, poolsidesauna, climbing wall, eight court sports hall, fitness suite, dance studioand free-weights area.DMU also offers a fantastic range of sports clubs for students to getinvolved in; from football and rowing to trampolining and cheerleading.VOLUNTEERINGDMU is committed to the public good, and this is underlined byDMU Local, our volunteering programme which gives students’the chance to help the community and deliver positive changeto the local area.
