Admissions Office Q&A:Our experts answer your most frequently asked questions!Why should I choose Cecil College?A: Cecil College provides a quality education with affordable tuition. Our focusis your success, which is why we offer a variety of programs and resources toensure you reach your educational goals. In fact, we offer 70 degrees andcertificates. There’s something for everyone.What are the class sizes at Cecil?A: We have small class sizes. The average class size is about 18 students. Thefurther you advance in your major and the more specific the course, your classsize may be even smaller, allowing you increased accessibility to professors andfellow classmates.Is Cecil College a 2-year or a 4-year college?A: Cecil College is a two-year community college. We offer certificates andassociate degrees in addition to many skilled trades and continuing educationprograms. Many of our degree students will transfer from Cecil College to a4-year college or university to complete their bachelor’s degree. While at Cecil,you will work with an academic advisor to ensure that your credits will transferto the four-year schools of your choice. Cecil has transfer and articulationagreements with hundreds of four-year schools. This makes the process oftransferring very easy. Agreements include all the Maryland four-year schoolsand many regional schools such as University of Delaware, Penn State, andWilmington University. Even if Cecil doesn’t have an agreement with a school,you can still transfer there but it’s very important to work with the advisor toensure credits will transfer.Do you offer in-person and online courses?A: Yes, we offer both. We have day and night in-person courses which are alsooffered on different days of the week. As for online courses, we offer a fewdifferent types. Hybrid classes are courses that meet in-person periodically withsome coursework offered online. Synchronous online courses are online classesthat meet virtually at a set day and time. Asynchronous online classes havelittle or no designated meeting days or times and assignments are completedindependently with scheduled due dates. We recommend you meet with youradvisor to build a schedule that works best for you.5How do I apply for financial aid/scholarships?A: We encourage everyone tocomplete the FAFSA (Free Applicationfor Federal Student Aid). Completingit will determine your eligibility forfederal grants, state grants, federaldirect loans, and work-study jobs.The Financial Aid office at CecilCollege is a great resource for anyoneneeding assistance with completinga FAFSA. In addition to the FAFSA,you can apply for the Cecil CollegeFoundation Scholarships. Each year,the Foundation provides numerousscholarships for tuition assistance andrequired textbooks through existingscholarship funds established bythe generosity of our donors, as wellas from funds raised directly by theFoundation.Are there extracurricular activities?A: Yes, Cecil College studentlife is dynamic, filled with manyopportunities for you to have fun,enrich your college experience, andgrow as a leader. BIOLOGICAL SCIENCESAGRICULTURAL SCIENCESIf you have an interest in plants, animals, microbes, the medical field, or aninterest in how humans can impact the environment, a degree in the biologicalsciences may be perfect for you. This program offers a selection of biologyand other natural and physical science-related courses for students wishing topursue a program of study in biology. This basic transfer program comprisesthe first two years of a baccalaureate degree in biology. BECOME A LEADER IN THEEVER-EVOLVING WORLD OFHEALTHCAREPhysical Therapist AssistantAre you interested in science, health and physical fitness? Do you enjoy problemsolving and helping others overcome challenges? If so, pursuing a degree as aphysical therapist assistant (PTA) might be right for you.The Physical Therapist Assistant program at Cecil College provides a foundationfor graduates to become highly skilled in providing patient services usingphysical therapy techniques under the supervision and direction of a licensedphysical therapist in clinics, hospitals, and many other health care settings.The PTA program admits students once a year in the spring semester althoughmany students opt to take pre-requisites in the fall. In the program, studentswill complete general education requirements, complete a core of technicaleducation coursework and participate in three full time, off-site clinicalexperiences.
