BCF PRESIDENT’S LETTERFall 2015This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Belvedere Community Foundation (BCF).Belvedere is unique in its dedication to volunteerism, the beautiful environment, and the varietyof activities offered to its residents. We’re grateful to our neighbors who had the foresight tolaunch the BCF and everyone who has continued the legacy. We have a lot to celebrate!The pages of this newsletter showcase the many projects, events and programs made possiblethis year through your donations and the grants from the BCF. We have a tremendous amount Juli Tantumof respect and admiration for the grant recipients that put in countless hours on behalf of ourcommunity. Working together, we are able to enhance the quality of life in our area. This year the Foundation providedfunding for schools, camps and important local services. And as you walk around the peninsula you will notice that BCFfunds were used to improve walking lanes, care for public gardens and landscape open spaces.In order to maintain this level of support, the BCF relies on the generosity of Belvedere residents. Please considermaking a tax-deductible contribution in the envelope provided with this letter. Any amount is greatly appreciated and goesdirectly to the worthwhile programs throughout our community. CHILDREN RUN FOR THESCHOOL DISTRICTThe Second Annual Fun Run benefitting the Reed Schools Foundationtook place on April 28, 2015. The BCF was the major sponsor of“Run For The Roses” honoring the Kentucky Derby theme in all theFoundation fundraising events taking place that week.Three hundred and forty-six finishers, double the number from lastyear, from Bel Aire and Del Mar Schools ran a total of 1,732 kilometers.Over 40,000 was raised to support music, physical education, technologyand science programs in the local schools.Siena BlairREDWOOD HIGHGRAD NIGHT ISSAFE AND FUNBCF supported Redwood High Grad Night, now inits 27th year, with a 2000 grant. This milestone wascelebrated as a substance-free event designed to keepour new graduates safe, sober and off the highways. Itwas held on June 11th at the Mt. Tam Racquet Club.All 350 Redwood grads, including 81 grads fromTiburon and Belvedere, were invited to attend at nocost to any student.FRIDAY NIGHTSAT THE HANGOUTThe Ranch recreation in Tiburon hosts weekly gettogethers of our young teens where friends can enjoybattling each other on one of many gaming consoles,competing on various gaming tables (ping pong,air hockey, and foosball), or relaxing on comfybean bags while munching on tasty snacks.Special themed nights occur monthly.HARVEY’S GARDENFLOURISHESDuring 2015, Master Gardener Harvey Rogers and “Harvey’sBrigade” of forty volunteers continued to carefully tend “Harvey’sGarden”, the welcoming public garden at Blackie’s Pasture. Afterremoving seven “huge” Manzanita, the team planted Grevellia“Moonlight” and Solanum “Royal Robe” and positioned landscapeflags to help determine where more new plants are needed. Thegardeners also updated portions of the garden’s irrigation system.Harry ended his report by declaring, “We have done a lot ofweeding and pruning too!”

Sixteenteenage counselors from those same communities and St. Stephen’s led the camp.Everyone delighted in the classes taught by professional teachers. The theme thisyear was “Many Stars Together Make a Great Light.” The Belvedere CommunityFoundation’s 2500 grant helped provide transportation, meals, art supplies, andstipends for teachers and counselors.Photo Credit: Wendy Cliff
