NWACC opened its doors to 1,200 students in August 1990 and has inexcess of approximately 8,000 college credit students (Fall 2018), making it one of the largest and fastest growing two-year college inArkansas. An additional 6,000 students are served by through non- credit courses throughout the service area.STRATEGIC GOALSThe NWACC 5-Year Strategic Plan has five (5) goals shown below. ACCREDITATION & INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERSHIPIn February 2000, the Higher Learning Commission, 30 North LaSalle Street, Chicago, IL 60602, (312) 263-0456, granted NorthWestArkansas Community College continued accreditation through 2010. In July 2006, NorthWest Arkansas Community College adopted theHigher Learning Commission’s Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) accreditation model, which automatically extended theCollege’s full NCA accreditation through 2013. NorthWest Arkansas Community College’s accreditation was reaffirmed in 2013 by theHigher Learning Commission, and has been extended until the year 2020.In addition to institutional accreditation, several of NWACC’s programs have received accreditation from professional organizations: The Business and Computer Programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP). ADMISSIONSADMISSIONS POLICYWhen considering an applicant for admission NorthWest ArkansasCommunity College (NWACC) adheres to all federal and state civilrights laws banning discrimination in publicly funded institutions.NWACC does not discriminate on the basis of gender, age, race,color, creed, religion, ancestry, national or ethnic origin, sexualorientation, gender identity, disability, genetic information, militarystatus, veteran status, familial status, or any other protectedcategory under applicable local, state, or federal law, ordinance orregulation, including protections for those opposing discriminationor participating in any complaint process. Sexual harassment, whichincludes acts of sexual violence, is a type of sex discriminationprohibited under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.The college follows an open door admission policy, which meansany person who has graduated from an accredited high school orsuccessfully completed a General Educational Development (GED)examination is eligible for admission. Certain academic programsare monitored and regulated by national accrediting organizations.These organizations publish and maintain a list of applicabletechnical standards that outline and identify the minimum jobperformance requirements with a particular job field. (Please seethe “Exceptions” section of this policy for technical standards).1. For admission to NorthWest Arkansas Community College thefollowing requirements must be met:A. Proof of completion from high school or home school,General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or other high schoolequivalency.B. Demonstrate language competencies and placement scorerequirements.C.Completion of Arkansas core curriculum requirements inaccordance with Act 1290 of 1997 (A.C.A. 6-60-208), asamended by ACT 520 of 1999 requires students graduatingfrom high school May 1, 2002 and after to have completedthe core curriculum for unconditional college admission. Allstudents graduating after May 1, 2002 from Arkansaspublic high schools, out of state high schools, homeschooling, private schools and Arkansas High SchoolDiploma recipients shall be evaluated for the purpose ofbeing granted conditional or unconditional admissionstatus.2. Northwest Arkansas Community College reserves the right todeny admission, readmission or registration to any student whohas not complied with College policy or procedures, including theStudent Code of Conduct, has a record of misconduct, or has notmade academic progress. Admission may also be denied whenthe college is unable to provide the services, courses or programsneeded to assist the student to realize their educationalobjectives.3. Students may be admitted under special admission requirements.4. Admission to the College does not insure admittance to aparticular course or program of study. Students may be requiredto take prerequisites and/or developmental courses beforeenrolling in certain classes or programs. These requirements willbe listed with the courses of study. Certain procedures governingadmissions may also be applied in instances of statutoryrequirements and/or requirements by a licensing, registering orcertifying board.5. Students not completing Arkansas core curriculum requirementsare eligible for conditional admissions to the college inaccordance with ACT 520 of 1999.6. NorthWest Arkansas Community College requires applicants foradmission to report if they have been convicted of a felony and/or have status as a registered sex offender. Applicants must alsoreport dismissal from a post-secondary institution for disciplinaryreasons.7. Concurrent/Dual Enrollment Admissions: High School students in9th to 12th grade may enroll in NWACC college courses followingArkansas Department of Higher Education guidelines onconcurrent and dual enrollment. For the most current details,refer to NWACC Concurrent Enrollment Policy (3030).Completion of Arkansas core curriculum requirements inaccordance with Act 1290 of 1997 (Arkansas Code 6-60-208), asamended by ACT 520 of 1999, requires students graduating fromhigh school May 1, 2002 and after to have completed the corecurriculum for unconditional college admission.DEFINITIONSAdmissions policies are established for the following student types:Provisional Student: An individual who has completed anapplication and is in the process of registration.
