Chapter2019-2020 Shasta College Catalog1: Admission and Enrollment InformationChapter 1: Admission and Enrollment InformationRESPONSIBILITY TO OFFICIALLY DROP OR WITHDRAW from aclass. Students who fail to file the necessary forms, even if they stopattending class, will be assigned a course grade.AdmissionsAnyone 18 years of age or older or anyone under 18 who hasgraduated from high school or obtained the equivalent may beadmitted to Shasta College classes.CLOSED CLASSES: A closed class is one which has reached itsmaximum enrollment. The only way that a student is allowed into aclosed class is:Course RegistrationThe student has their name added to the class wait list so, asenrolled students withdraw, the wait-listed student may be added tothe enrollment list depending upon their wait-list priority. An e-mail tothe student is automatically generated, and the student has untilmidnight of the date the e-mail was sent to pay the appropriate feesand achieve official enrollment status; or the student must obtain theinstructor’s permission. The instructor verifies permission byproviding a registration code or by signing a student add/drop formand including the date of first attendance.ONLY OFFICIALLY REGISTERED STUDENTS MAY ATTENDCLASSES. STUDENTS WHOSE NAMES DO NOT APPEAR ONTHE INSTRUCTOR’S CLASS LIST ARE NOT OFFICIALLYREGISTERED AND WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT OR GRADES.APPLICATIONS AND INFORMATION SHOULD BE REQUESTEDFROM:Shasta College WebsiteORIn either event, the student must attend the first class meeting.Admissions and Records Office, Shasta College11555 Old Oregon TrailP.O. Enrollment inoverlapping courses is only permitted if there is a valid justification,such as degree completion, of the need for an overlapping schedule.Scheduling convenience is not a valid reason.ORDROPPING A CLASS: IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITYTO DROP A CLASS. The Enrollment Fee and/or material fees arerefundable if a class is dropped during the first 10% point of thelength of the course.* Students may drop a class and have nonotation appear on their transcripts through the census date of eachclass. Students are able to drop classes on-line through MyShasta.The student may withdraw from a class from the census date up to75% of the length of the course. The notation “W” will appear on thestudent’s transcript and will not be used in the calculation of thegrade point average. Excessive “W”s shall, however, be used asfactors in progress probation and dismissal procedures. Forms areavailable from the Admissions and Records Office, ExtendedEducation campuses, or by mail. Students may not drop classesover the phone. Students who have not dropped or withdrawn from aclass before the end of the fourteenth week or 75% of the term willbe assigned a course grade. Students unable to processtransactions in person or via MyShasta may designate anotherperson to process transactions on their behalf by proxy. A proxy formis available at Proxy Form or through the Admissions and RecordsOffice. The form must be signed and return
