Colorado AffiliateDelegate MessageHello CAND members,I hope the beginning of the year has started off well for you, that you and your families have been safe and healthythrough all that 2020 brought us.Now that I have had time to settle into the role of Colorado Delegate, I’d to focus on one of my goals as delegate whichis to start building “Think Tanks” among our members. One key role of a delegate is to seek input on critical issues fromour members (you) and contribute thoughtful dialogue back to the HOD at meetings. I need to engage incommunication with you, then represent the diversity of opinions at the Academy level HOD meetings.A Think Tank is a small group organized with the objective of brainstorming and discussing critical issues affecting thedietetics profession in Colorado. Being part of a Think Tank is a way to be involved in leadership without much timecommitment, as well as guide policy. We would meet prior to HOD meetings – fall around FNCE, winter (February), andspring (May). Or, I would ask for input simply by email and meet as needed to discuss in person/virtually.Results of the 2020 Strategic and Professional Issues survey indicated the following current issues among Coloradomembers:Career development and advancement – wage, concern about internships, range of practitionersDiversity and cultural competenceEmerging integrative approaches for practicePolicy and advocacy – licensure, reimbursement for MNT, job title protectionTechnologies impacting policyAs you are aware, the HOD critical issue for the entire 2020 year is diversity, inclusion, and equity. My first Think Tankpriority will be to create a group discussion around this topic, including discussion with our own CAND D&I team. The next HOD meeting is Saturday, February 13. If you have questions, concerns, or opinions on the topic of D&I thatyou’d like to let HOD know about, please reach out to me. Also, please reach out if you have interest in one of theseother topics and want to engage in dialogue. My contact information is below. All the best,Alexandra Wilson, MS, RDN, CDE8
