All our work and effortat Samford leads to this moment. We rejoice in the fulfillment of ourinstitutional mission and honor the beginning of a new era in the life ofeach graduate.This ceremony continues our tradition that stretches to Samford’sfounding in 1841 as Howard College in Marion, Alabama. Across thepast 180 years, Samford has granted thousands of degrees; today thesegraduates join over 54,000 living alumni serving around the world. Wetake pride in their hours of study and preparation required to earn theiracademic degrees. We recognize the enormous sacrifice of the students andtheir families, the excellent work of faculty and staff, and the dedication ofso many who provide the financial support necessary to build and sustain agreat Christ-centered university.All of us at Samford are especially grateful to those who have loved andsupported these graduates. SpeakerDENNIS SANSOM/ SAMFORD UNIVERSITYDR. DENNIS L. SANSOM joined theSamford faculty in 1988 as an assistantprofessor in the Department of Religionand Philosophy. In 1997 he becameChair of the Department of Religion andPhilosophy and then the Chair of theDepartment of Philosophy in 2000. In2020 the departments of Classics andPhilosophy were combined, and hebecame Chair of it. He has taughtvarious subjects in philosophy but hasspecialized in ethics, having taughtChristian Ethics for over 30 years. He is married to BeverlyBurnside Sansom. His two sons,Stephen and Jonathan, both graduatedfrom Samford, as well as his daughter-inlaw Rebecca Schiffman Sansom(Stephen).
