The facility has over 17,000 square feet of space with various roomsand areas offering a wide array of state-of-the-art desktop, benchtop and industrialequipment.As part of its educational programming, the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) andthe College of Engineering provide UTSA students, faculty, staff and visitors theopportunity to use the UTSA Makerspace facilities, equipment, materials and tools foreducational, prototyping or research projects.2.0 Requirements for Use of UTSA MakerspaceIn order to use the UTSA Makerspace facility and equipment, each user must: Verify your identity with a valid photo ID Complete UTSA Makerspace: User Agreement (MS-0001) Complete and sign the UTSA Makerspace: User Information & Release of Liability Form(MSF-0001) Successfully complete equipment and area-specific training3.0 Conditions of Use of the UTSA Makerspace Facilities and EquipmentBy signing this document, the Maker affirms and agrees that: They are capable of participating in UTSA Makerspace activities Agree to follow and comply with all UTSA policies, guidelines, and instruction That the UTSA Makerspace reserves the right to refuse any requests to use equipment,tools, machines, furniture, space, or any other item located within the UTSA Makerspacefacility.A copy of the rules below is posted online at https://engineering.utsa.edu/makerspace forreview, and an abridged set of rules is posted prominently at different locations within theUTSA Makerspace facility.4.0 User AgreementBy initialing next to each policy, the Maker hereby agrees to the UTSA Makerspace Rulesdetailed here.Orientation and Signed Agreements1. The Makerspace is a spaceInitialto be productive, learn, create, and have fun doing so, but also a place to work safely3. Be respectful towards fellow Makers, and to follow the instructions of Makerspacestaff members. The Makerspace is a place everyone is welcome, and a place designedto inspire creative, collaborative, innovative thinking.4. Production of dangerous objects, weapons, or items considered inappropriate for acampus environment is prohibited.5. Covered food and drinks are allowed on tables or desks but are never allowed on anytable that houses equipment, machines, or tools.Accessibility6. Accessibility to the UTSA Makerspace:Initial Hours of operation are posted on the at the UTSA Makerspace and on the UTSAMakerspace website Access to UTSA Makerspace is dependent of completion of appropriate equipmentand facility training After-hours access is available for Project Area of UTSA Makerspace After-hour access to other areas must be approved by UTSA Makerspacemanagement. A parent or legal guardian must accompany Makers under the age of 18, and that aparent or legal guardian must actively accompany Makers under the age of 13 at alltimes.Equipment and Materials7. Use of any tools, equipment, materials and areas of the UTSA Makerspace require:Initial Initialed and signed UTSA Makerspace: User Agreement (MS-0001) Signed UTSA Makerspace: User Information & Release of Liability Form(MSF-0001) Successful completion of equipment and area-specific training8. Never use a tool without the proper training or certification.9. Act responsibly, and to avoid wasting consumable materials and supplies.10. Use tools effectively, and further agree Never to use broken tools or equipment. Use tools only for their intended use. Never to remove tools from the Makerspace. Never leave a tool on or running unattended. Never tamper with a tool’s safety features and always operate machineryaccording to its recommended protocol.

Agree to pay for the loss of or damage to any items beyond normal wear and tear,according to the Makerspace’s assessment of fair restitution for damage, dirtiness,delinquency, and/or loss of items in part or total.13. If tools, equipment, materials, or facilities are being used improperly, a Makerspacestaff member reserve the right to revoke a Maker’s tool, equipment, material, orfacility access.SafetyInitial14. Report all injuries, incidents, and accidents immediately.15. Stop use of the tool or equipment if it becomes unsafe.16. Report any broken or malfunctioning tools, parts, or machines to staff immediately.17. Use the space and equipment safely, and leave the space and equipment clean andin working condition.18. Ask for help if unsure how to use equipment or tools, and to help others whenasked. Manuals, training materials, and in-person instruction will be made availableupon request.19. Personal projects created outside of a Makerspace facility must be approved by astaff member before being brought in to the Makerspace to ensure the project is not asafety hazard.20. Be prepared. Ensure you know where the first aid kits are located, where the fireextinguishers are, and where to go in the case of an emergency. Safety equipmentincluding goggles, masks, gloves, respirators, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers areprovided by the Makerspace.21. Double-check work with another Maker before starting a project, think througheach project before starting it, and to never work when tired or in a hurry.22. Dress for safety with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE): Clothing and jewelry that might get caught in the equipment must not be worn.Long hair should be properly secured so it does not get caught in machinery.Closed-toed shoes must be worn in the UTSA Makerspace. Safety glasses must be worn in the UTSA Makerspace when machines or tools arein use. Hearing protection should be worn in certain areas of the UTSA Makerspace whenloud equipment is in use. Suitable gloves must be worn when handling hot or sharp objects.Cleanliness

Take apart and place back any K-12 station parts once done for the day so thatothers may use them too.25. Discard or recycle used items.26. Shut off and unplug any machines while cleaning.27. Never use a rag near moving machinery.28. Use a brush, hook, or special tool to remove chips, shavings, etc. from the workarea. Keep fingers clear of the point of operation of machines by using special tools ordevices.29. Keep the floor around the work areas and machinery areas clean, dry, and free fromtrip hazards.30.
