University TransferUniversity Transfer DegreesTransfer DegreesTransfer GuaranteeThe university transfer program at ECC is agreat place to start a four-year degree. Itprovides foundation courses equivalent tothe first two years of a bachelor’s degreeand leads to transfer with junior standingto the college or university of choice.The following five associate degrees areavailable in the ECC university transferprogram. They are detailed in this sectionof the catalog.It is the policy of the District 509 Board ofTrustees that students completing a transferassociate degree from ECC be guaranteedthe acceptance of credits earned at ECC bythe transfer institution, backed by an offerof a refund of tuition for any courses notaccepted, subject to the conditions outlinedbelow.The following college majors are offeredat most Illinois state universities. Foundation courses required for them are availableat ECC. Students with specific majorsin mind will find it helpful to visit the college website for educational plans, outlining specific general education coursesmost appropriate for their transfer major,elgin.edu/academics. Visit the Counseling Center where professional counselors can assist you in makinglife choices. Classes such as “ExploringCareers and College Majors” allow you toinvestigate career choice, college majorand choosing a transfer college or university. Visit the Transfer Center for personalizedassistance in selecting and correspondingwith various departments at the school ofyour choice. Attend college night where over 120 college representatives visit ECC’s campus. Obtain and study catalogs and the website of the four-year colleges or universities you are considering. Become familiarwith their entrance, graduation andmajor requirements. Decide on your transfer school. Create a transfer educational plan withan ECC counselor using the catalog as aguide. Follow your educational plan. Consultyour counselor when changes occur. At the beginning of your last semesterat ECC, apply for graduation. You needto apply for your degree even if you donot plan to participate in the graduationceremony. See pg. ? Accept final responsibility for your successful transfer to another institution.A. The application for a refund must besubmitted within one calendar year ofcompletion or graduation with a transfer degree from ECC.B. The course must have been completedwith a grade of C or better.C. The refund would be based upon thetuition paid at the time the course wascompleted.D. The student has met with an authorizedcounselor from ECC, declared a majorand a transfer college or university priorto taking any courses in the guarantee,and taking only those courses approvedin writing by the ECC counselor.E. The student transfers to the college oruniversity declared within two years ofinitial enrollment at ECC.F. The student requests an evaluationby the transfer institution of the ECCcourses completed immediately upontransfer.G. The student cooperates with ECC personnel in resolving any transfer difficulties by notifying the college and submitting any necessary consents or releasesfor student records or correspondence.H. The student submits within 60 days ofbeing notified by the transfer institution that a course has been refused forcredit and makes a claim for the refund.The claim must state the reasons for therefusal offered by the institution, thename, position, address and telephonenumber of the person notifying thestudent of the refusal and copies ofany correspondence or documentationprovided by the transfer institution.The college will first attempt to resolvethe issue with the transfer institution.If favorable resolution is not achievedwithin 120 days, the reimbursement willbe authorized.The sole recourse available to participantsenrolled in this guarantee program shallbe limited to the tuition reimbursement ofthe class at the time of enrollment, with norecourse for damages, court costs or any associated costs of any kind or right to appealbeyond those specified by ECC.2 0 0 9–2 0 1 0 E L G I NC O M M U N I T YC O L L E G E 19

University TransferIllinois ArticulationInitiative (IAI)Center for AdvancedStudiesThis statewide agreement, in which ECCparticipates, allows easy transfer of completed general education core curriculumbetween participating Illinois collegesand universities. Transferring students areassured that general education requirements for an associate’s degree or lowerdivision general education requirementsfor a bachelor’s degree have been satisfied.Receiving institutions may require admittedtransfer students to complete institutionwide and/or mission-related graduationrequirements beyond the scope of the IAIgeneral education core curriculum. All community colleges, all public state universities,and most private colleges/universities haveendorsed the IAI.elgin.edu/advancedstudiesThe IAI recommends courses typicallytaken by freshmen and sophomores for aspecific major and those recommendationsare noted as part of the course description shown in this catalog. However, thoserecommendations are intended for studentswho are undecided about a transfer school.For students who know where they willtransfer, see an ECC counselor for an educational plan designed for a particular transfer institution.
