In 2010 the school moved toNashville, Tennessee along with its owner andher US Army Veteran family, providing muchneeded makeup training in the southeast andMidwest. The school is licensed by theTennessee Higher Education commission. Fortwo years running, graduates have been selected to compete as one of only eight finalists at IMATS,International Makeup Artist Trade Show Student Competitions in L.A. Our alumnus have won RAW NaturalBorn Artist Awards, been published in Italian Vogue among other magazines, worked on music video andfilm sets with numerous celebrities. This authorizationmust be renewed each year and is based on an evaluation by minimum standards concerning quality ofeducation, ethical business practices, health and safety, and fiscal responsibility.V ET ER AN S B EN E FI T SAMUA is approved under the provisions of Title 38, United States Code for Veterans. Students who wish toreceive Veteran benefits must submit a statement of previous training to the school for consideration.Students with previous training in the course to be pursued must submit transcripts from previouslyattended institutions. Credits allowed will be recorded on the enrollment record and the length of thecourse shortened proportionately. In addition, the student and the VA shall be notified. (NOTE: All priortraining must be evaluated.) The VA or the state-approving agency may impose varying enrollmentlimitations. Veterans are advised to obtain appropriate enrollment materials well in advance of startingclass. Problems relating to veteran enrollment should be directed to the regional office of the Veterans’Administration. This approval is for non-degree programs, and applies to the Freelance Makeup Artistprogram of study. Our class size islimited to ten (10) students so students get the attention they need to develop their skills. Course Catalog Fall 2012Academy of Make Up ArtsADMISSIONSE N R O L L M EN TThe enrollment process for all students is as follows: Complete the Application for Enrollment Form Be at least 18 years of age or have parental consent Submit proof of high school graduation or GED Submit a non-refundable 100 application feeTo complete the admissions process, candidates must submit supporting documents to the AdmissionsDepartment and take any required skills tests and/or entrance exams.The registration fee must be paid prior to enrollment and all tuition arrangements must be made prior toenrollment with the Admissions Department. Please call to set up an appointment for registration. Studentsmust confirm that they have secured finances in order to begin school. Tuition must be paid in full twoweeks prior to class start date. If registering for a class that begins in less than two weeks, balance is due attime of enrollment.O R I EN T AT I O NOne week prior to the class start date, students must attend an orientation to review student rules, careergoals, meet instructor and review materials needed for class.Late enrollment is not permitted.P R I O R T R AI N I N GPrior training may satisfy some prerequisite requirements forapplicants in the advanced level courses. There is a qualifying procedure, and students must meet with theschool’s Financial Aid Director. You must meet credit history, income, and employmentrequirements to qualify for a private payment plan. Because of these eligibility requirements, moststudents will need to apply with a co-signer in order to qualify. Course Catalog Fall 2012Academy of Make Up ArtsSTUDENT PROGRESS, GRADING & ATTENDANCEStudents are monitored to measure development and progress using performance skills tests andcritiques. All tests and critiques are graded by the 10-point scale. These points are then converted togrades and students must score 70% or greater. Homework must be completed and presented forgrading on the final day of class.Because of the consolidated nature of our programs, AMUA places strong importance on attendance.Students are expected to be on-time and prepared for every class. Students may not be absent morethan (1) time in any course. Students who must be unavoidably absent must make up their classesand projects by making arrangements with the instructor prior to the end of each course. Absencesremain on student’s records; permanent records are often requested by directors and producersprior to hiring.Students must maintain a GPA of 2.0, a C-grade in order to remain in good academic standing.Individual courses will be assessed at the half-way point of each course. Students must successfullycomplete each course in order to move on to the next one. Daily grades are recorded based oninstructor evaluations.Examinations for each course are in the form of a practical skills test which requires student todemonstrate proficiency in the skills and techniques covered in each course.G R AD E P O I N T A V E R A G E C A L CU L AT O RLetter GradePercentagePoint 90.00T R AN SC R I P T STranscripts are issued to graduates upon completion of their training program and additional academictranscripts are available for a fee of 7.00. All fees must bepaid in full to receive a diploma or certificate. Creditsearned at another educational institution may not be accepted by Academy of Make Up Arts, LLC. You shouldobtain confirmation that Academy of Make Up Arts, LLC will accept any credits you have earned at anothereducational institution before you execute an enrollment contract or agreement. You should also contact anyeducational institutions that you may want to transfer credits earned at Academy of Make Up Arts, LLC todetermine if such institutions will accept credits earned at Academy of Make Up Arts, LLC prior to executingan enrollment contract or agreement. The ability to transfer credits from Academy of Make Up Arts, LLC toanother educational institution may be very limited. Your credits may not transfer and you may have torepeat courses previously taken at Academy of Make Up Arts, LLC if you enroll in another educationalinstitution. You should never assume that credits will transfer to or from any educational institution. It ishighly recommended and you are advised to make certain that you know the transfer of credit policy ofAcademy of Make Up Arts, LLC and of any other educational institutions you may in the future want totransfer the credits earned at Academy of Make Up Arts, LLC before you execute an enrollment contract oragreement.L E AV EOFA B S EN C EExcessive absences work adversely on students’ records, and if students have a medical or a personalproblem to work out, they may take a leave of absence (LOA), ensuring that the time lost can be made upwhen the student returns. The personal problems for which students may take a leave of absence include,but are not limited to: a death of a relative, personal injury or illness or other special circumstances. Forpersonal reasons students may take up to a two-month leave of absence. For medical reasons, students maytake up to a four-month leave of absence. Students must request an LOA in writing. Students can request anLOA form from the Director of Education. Students who return to complete a course or program, for whichthey received an incomplete, shall meet all the standards necessary to receive a passing grade. Uponcompletion of the required standards, students receive a certificate or diploma in accordance with theiroriginal completion date.M AK I N GUPM I SS E D C L AS S ESStudents who miss a class must make-up each class session in order to take the final exam and complete eachcourse. Make-up sessions can be arranged with the instructor and the director of education. Students canwatch recorded lecture’s DVD’s, attend a make-up class session for lab and practice in the afternoons of anydaily session. The last two Friday’s of each month are open to students to make-up missed classes byarrangement with the Director of Education. All projects and assignments must be turned in prior to a finalgrade and/or transcript being issued for each course.S T U DE N T R E CO R D SStudent financial records are maintained for ten years after students have completed their stay at this school.Academic records are kept into perpetuity. All files are secured in locked, fire-proof and flood-proof cabinetsin a secured location safe from casual contact and theft.15 Course Catalog AMUA Admissions Office

Course Catalog Fall 2012Academy of Make Up ArtsPROBATION AND TERMINATIONIf for reasons of poor academic progress and/or poor attendance, students may be placed on probation.Probation is a measure taken by the school that is designed to help students correct their behavior and/oracademic deficiencies. Probation remedies are meant to help students improve their performance. It is theschool’s responsibility to identify student deficiencies and take corrective measures to provide students withthe best opportunity to improve their status in school and become successful and prepared to beprofessional makeup artists. The average probationary period is three weeks or six class sessions.Termination is a measure taken by the school when a student has not successfully met the standards of theschool. Some reasons for termination include, but are not limited to: not improving performance once placedon probation, not adhering to the student rules given to students at orientation, being under the influence,consuming, selling or possessing of drugs or alcohol on school premises, possession of a weapon on schoolpremises, demonstrating disrespectful behavior to another student, administrators or faculty or for failure tomeet financial obligations.C H AR G E SFO RP RO RA T E D C O UR S ESStudents will be charged to retake any failed coursesR E EN R O L L ME N T / R E - EN T RYAny student who withdraws or is terminated from a program of study and returns within 180 days, will becharged the same tuition costs. The student is bound by the catalog in effect at the time of the originalenrollment. Students that have passed a SAP evaluation point and withdraw or are terminated from theinstitution while on probation may not reenter. These students are eligible to re-enroll only after a period ofone year.G R AD U AT I O N R EQ UI R E M EN T SIn order to successfully complete training at AMUA and be eligible for graduation, students mustmeet the following criteria: Maintained 90% attendance throughout the program Have achieved a minimum of 2.0 GPA Have completed all projects and assignments for a final grade Be cleared of all outstanding fees before student is considereda graduate and is able to receive a certificate from the school.Students who successfully complete our program receive a Certificate of Training or Diploma sanctioned bythe Tennessee Higher Education Commission. It is our aim to help students establish and maintain professional skills throughout trainingfor both artistic and business disciplines.Attend all classes.
