As such, this celebration highlightsthe pivotal truth of the Church's Faith: that God has, in JesusChrist, accepted a human nature, chosen to be born into thisworld as we have all been born into this world, and has liveda real, human life.In doing so, God has accepted the full implication of what itmeans to be human, including the experiences of sufferingand death."Why" God did this is what the Scriptures are all about—from start to finish, from Genesis to Revelation. In fact, theBible is not just some kind of spiritual "self-help" book or justa collection of ancient literature; the Bible is the story of whyGod accepts a human nature in Christ.Article by Fr. Baptisms last SundayMary, Motherhood and Mothers’ DayMother’s Day has a deepspiritual dimension to it.Motherhood has alwaysbeen a sacred and noblevocation, but Mary, ourBlessed Mother, raised it to even greater staturewhen she became the Mother of God. As themother who is “blessed among women”, Mary gives us the clearestand most inspiring picture of what the ideal mother should be.Mary was “full of grace”, and God lived within her. This came naturally because of her upbringing. With such a firm foundation, Mary wasso favorably disposed to God that when the archangel Gabriel appeared to her and said, “You will bear a son,” with deep faith shetrustingly replied, “Let it be done to me according to your word”. Every Christian mother loves God with all her heart and responds favorably whenever God calls.Mary was overshadowed by the Holy Spirit and it was by the grace ofGod that she conceived. Every conception is a miracle, and everyChristian mother knows that she is a partner with God in the ongoingwork of creation, deeply aware that her child is a gift from God. So,when a Christian woman is blessed with a pregnancy, she rejoices inher child, she completes her pregnancy rather than ends it in abortion, and responsibly cares for her unborn child.Several weeks after Jesus was born, Mary and her husband Josephpresented their newborn Son Jesus to the priest in the Temple. Bydoing this, Mary consecrated Jesus to God, she acknowledged thatGod had a plan for her Son and agreed to do everything in her powerto cooperate with God’s intended purpose for him. Likewise, Christian mothers consecrate their children to God in the Sacrament ofBaptism, and promise to do everything possible to help their childrendo what God wants in their lives.Mary and Joseph took their son Jesus to the synagogue in Nazaretheach week in observance of the Sabbath, and they took him to theTemple in Jerusalem once a year for Passover. For Mary, regularchurch attendance was automatic. Mothers who follow Mary’s example go to Mass each week, and they take their children with them, because it is so important to pray with others and be connected toother faith-filled families. The gospel says that Jesus was obedient to Mary, implying that Marywas firm and demanding with her Son. Christian mothers do not lettheir children do whatever they want, but have high standards forChristian conduct, have a set of house rules, and insist upon them. When Jesus was crucified, Mary stood at the foot of the Cross andsuffered with him. She never abandoned her child, even during adulthood, particularly when things were at their worst. This sort of enduring love is exemplary for Christian mothers.Happy Mother’s Day to all St Paul’s Mothersfrom the Culture of Life Ministry.

We can give witness to our faith in smallways: a meal prayer even in a restaurant, a sign of thecross when passing a cemetery, a religious statue inour garden, an appropriate bumper sticker. Our witness to faith needs to be like yeast in bread-present,effective, transforming. When it guides your everydaylife, when you stand up for what is right and good, when others see the person you are because of faith, your give great witness. The best sermon is alwaysthe one without any words. 2009 Liturgical Publications IncTHE NEW BRITAIN COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMENis pleased to announce ourscholarship winners for 2018.Riley White of Saint Katherine Drexel Parish received 1,000and will be entering Iona College in the fall.Oliver Klimas of Sacred Heart Parish also received 1,000and will be entering Xavier High School in the fall.
