SUNDAYSFOOD FOR LIFE—DIABETES INITIATIVE:The Power of Food forDiabetes Prevention and TreatmentDiabetes is a major public health problem of epidemic proportions—11 percent of the United Statesadult population has diabetes, and nearly one-thirdof those sixty-five and older have the disease. Fortunately, Type 2 diabetes is largely a disease of overnutrition and sedentary lifestyle. The disease can beprevented, and complications can often be avoidedor treated, with a significant change in lifestyle.
