Moloch is mentioned in the Bible as one of the many common pagan gods worshiped by theIsraelites. (1 Kings 11:7) and (Acts 7:43) 1 Kings 11:7 ”On a hill east of Jerusalem, Solomon built a high place for Chemosh thedetestable god of Moab, and for Molek the detestable god of the Ammonites”.Acts 7:43 ”You have lifted up the shrine of Molech and the star of your god Rephan, theidols you made to worship. In II Kings xxiii. 10 it is stated that one of the practises towhich Josiah put a stop by his reform was that of sacrificing children to Molech, and that theplace where this form of worship had been practised was at Topheth, “in the valley of thechildren of Hinnom.”“The name “Molech,” later corrupted into “Moloch,” is an intentional mispointing of “Melek,”after the analogy of “bosheth” (comp.
