Helpful hints for juicingPreparing fruit and vegetablesWash all fruit and vegetables well beforejuicing. There is no need to peel vegetablesthat have a thin skin but a light scrub witha clean sponge will help rid of any dirt thatmay be stuck on or any waxy coatings.Peel fruit and vegetables that have a thickskin such as melons, pineapple and citrusfruit.Juice only the freshest of fruit and vegetablesto get the most nutrients out of them and thebest flavours.Cut large pieces of fruit, such as melons intolarge wedges. Some seeds from citrus fruits can be bitterso you may want to remove some of the seedsbefore juicing.Remove seeds and stones from fruit such asmangoes, papaya and stone fruit. This willprevent the blade from getting damaged.Juicing techniquesWhen juicing different fruit and vegetables itmay help to juice in different combinations. For example, when juicing apples andoranges, juice the soft fruit (oranges) first, then follow with the hard fruit (apples)second. This will help you to achieve themaximum juice extraction from the fruit andvegetables. When juicing fresh herbs such as mint orparsley, add the herbs in between the fruitand vegetables to get the most out of theherb or if only using a small quantity, add theherb at the same time as a piece of fruit andvegetable.4Bananas can be hard to juice but the tastegoes a long way. When juicing a blend offruit with bananas, add the banana as eitherthe first or second piece of fruit. The nectarof the banana will sit inside the filteringbasket and as the remaining fruits are addedinto the juice extractor they will release thebanana nectar throughout the rest of thejuice resulting in frothy flavoursome juice. When juicing small fruit such as grapes orstrawberries, add the fruit in handfuls ratherthan one at a time, this will maximise theamount of juice extracted.Be aware that beetroot stains all other fruitand vegetables. If juicing several differentjuice combinations, juice the drink with thebeetroot last, so as to not stain the otherdrinks.
