The SikaProof system consists of twoalternative methods of installation:SikaProof A pre-applied system is installedin the formwork before the reinforcement isplaced and concrete is cast. The membrane sheetsare available in 1.0 m and 2.0 m wide rolls. Theunique hybrid bonding layer forms a dual bondwith concrete to provide a watertight basementstructure.SikaProof P post-applied system is installed onthe hardened / existing concrete structure. SikaProof P-1201 in-situ adhered systemThe applied SikaProof Adhesive-11 H (horizontalapplications) or SikaProof Adhesive-11 V (verticalapplications) is used to create a durable fullsurface bond between the prepared concretesurface and the directly installed SikaProof P-1200 membrane sheets.78The entire system can be cold applied using selfadhesive tapes or applied with thermal jointing,where the overlap joints are connected with aheating device. THE FULLY BONDED TECHNOLOGYFULLY BONDED – WHAT DOES IT MEAN .The fully bonded technology was developed from Sika’s elasticsealant and adhesive bonding expertise. The innovationprovides a durable and reliable bond between the membranesystem and the structural concrete. This property provides ahigh safety and long term watertight solution, especially in theevent of damage to the membrane.Any water ingress is limited to the damaged area and the wateris prevented from lateral migration between the membrane andthe concrete structure. That makes the repair by local injection ofdamaged areas simple and effective, due to its locally limited area.The key feature of “the fully bonded technology” is the same inboth SikaProof A and P and this bond is not only dependenton the membrane system. The appropriate concrete qualityensures the success of the fully bonded system. For thispurpose concrete mix design and the workmanship have to beplanned and executed precisely. Sika provides a wide rangeof concrete admixtures and technologies to help achieve therequired concrete quality with the “Sika Mix Design Tool” andthe technical services on site.The “fully bonded technology” has beentested and approved in function testsaccording to ASTM and EN standards.Therefore the bonded membrane incombination with concrete is testedregarding the resistance to lateral watermigration under a defined water pressureover a specific period.The SikaProof fully bonded system limits any water ingress / leakage of the structure on a local area in the event of a damage to themembrane (see above picture).If non-bonded systems will be damaged, water spreads uncontrollablybetween the membrane and the concrete. . AND HOW DOES IT WORK?The pre-applied SikaProof A system is installed in theformwork before the reinforcement is placed, and the structuralconcrete is cast. The fresh concrete is cast onto the membraneand covers the surface of the hybrid bonding layer to form thedual bond.The post-applied SikaProof P-1201 system, the membraneis installed into the freshly applied adhesive onto the preparedhardened concrete sur face. There is no primer required, the fullsurface and highly durable bond to concrete structure is createdby the adhesive.THE SYSTEM BUILD-UP:SikaProof A consists of a flexible polyolefin (FPO) membrane (1)with a thickness of 1.2 mm containing a unique, FPO based, hybridbonding layer (2) to give total membrane thickness of 1.75 mm. Thestructural concrete (3), which is determined according to the SikaConcrete Mix Design, creates the ideal dual bond.THE SYSTEM BUILD-UP:SikaProof P-1201 system consists of a flexible FPO membraneSikaProof P-1200 (1) based on Sikaplan technology available inthickness 1.2 mm. WHERE TO USESikaProof A and P?SikaProof A , PRE-APPLIED WATERPROOFING SYSTEMAs a pre-applied solution, the SikaProof A membrane systemcan be applied on blinding concrete for the base slab and to theprepared vertical excavation wall, e.g. on diaphragm walls, piledwalls, or similar. Alternatively, it can be applied directly ontothe inside of the external shuttering when using double-facedformwork in open-cut excavation.
