SERMONSacred Pathways: Loving God Through Celebration and MysteryRev. CampbellAFFIRMATION OF FAITH: A PORTION OF THE NICENE CREED WRITTEN IN 325 A.D. (unison)We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen andunseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with theFather; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he wascrucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again inaccordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of theFather. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have noend.HYMN OF DEDICATION NO. 95“Praise Him! Praise Him!”*CLOSING AND BENEDICTIONRev. This month we would like to expand on what you can do to recycle textiles. When you do need to get rid of clothing, think of donating it to our own Thrift Shop or to organizationslike Fort St. Presbyterian Church. (Their primary need is for men’s clothing.) The contact person at ourchurch is Chuck Hodge. You can reach him at chodge@comcast.net.For fabric that is beyond recycling as clothing, think about donating it to local quilting groups or our own“Threads to Heal the Heart” group. They will gladly accept donations of 100% cotton materials for quilts.Ginny Weaver is the contact person at ginnymweaver@gmail.com.Many communities are now offering city/township programs that can assist with textile recycling. Plymouth Township has partnered with “Simple Recycling” to offer scheduled pickup of clothing, shoes, small household items and fabrics. This program is voluntary, free of charge, and simple to use. Followthis link for more information on this artments/solid waste trash collection/textiles.phpIf you do not live in the Township, contact another church member who does to see if they can assist withutilizing this service. Through “Simple Recycling,” materials collected are sorted locally based on qualityand condition. Items are distributed to local thrift outlets, exported to international markets, or processed forraw materials. If you are a crafter, think of creative ways you can recycle these items yourself. Clothing Swaps are becoming popular as well. Just search “Clothing Swaps” in Google and you will beable to find local swaps in our area. Many retail stores accept donations and even offer incentives for doing it. As we look back over ourhistory we recognize that God has been faithful to our church family throughout the generations. In the bookby Samuel Hudson, The 150th Anniversary History First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth, Philip RodgersMagee, the Senior Minister at the time, wrote the Forward. In it he observes that there are certain “themes”that run through our history. One “Theme” is that “human nature is much the same, whatever the century, and that, for us mortals, there isalways the need for Christ’s power to lead us from what we are to what we may become.”And another, “is the way in which Presbyterians, from the very beginning, have believed that the Faith theyhear about on Sundays should be put into action in their own community during the week.”“But”, Reverend Magee writes, “the theme which tends to linger the longest is how God speaks to Christiansin each generation they find themselves. And how he guides them in living and applying His unique Wordwhere and when you are.”These themes are still running through the life of our church today. Our church continues to be guided by theHoly Spirit and led by Christ through His Word in our daily lives. Their presence enables us to share our faithwith our families, community and world. May this always be!Rev. Magee’s final thought is heartening and full of hope. He writes, “God has led us from then to now, encouraging us today as He did yesterday to share and spread His love. And to be His followers now as thosewho preceded us tried to be back then.” AMEN!Let us join together on March 6th in praising God for His faithfulness!8
