17Student Handbook 2018-2019hubThe Hub is the place in College to supportyou as individuals whilst you are here at CRC.The Hub provides wraparound supportto all students and apprentices at CRCand is provided by a group of supportteams including: Careers and IAG Student Bursary Welfare and Support Safeguarding Apprenticeship Recruitment Student Engagement and Student Union Progression Coaches - If you needanything, visit The Hub and they will helpyou or point you in the right direction.THECollegeCLOSURESThe College website indicates the current statusof the College.There are three stages to the College’saccessibility: Green - The College is fully open to all users. Amber - The College will have a delayedopening for commercial activities and tolocal students and all staff who can makethe journey safely. The exact time of openingwill be communicated on the day by text, socialmedia and College websites. The College isclosed for students who would normally attendon the College’s contract buses. Red - The College is closed to all staffand students.WHAT TO DO IF.hub onlineyou are absentAt CRC we pledge to provide outstandingsupport to students. The Hub Online offer 24hour information, advice and support at yourfingertips on a computer, mobile or tablet. Tovisit The Hub Online sign into the CRC VLE.If you are going to be absent for any reasonyou must call the college on 01480 379100 forHuntingdon, or 01223 418551 for Cambridge,before 9am to report it.This number has voicemail for use inside andoutside of college hours.We will need your name, student ID number andthe reason for your absence.IDCARDSID cards are issued to all staff and students andmust be worn at all times whilst on Collegepremises or on College trips and visits.Your ID entitles you to access the Collegepremises and use it’s resources like the LRC andfood outlets. If you have a College bus pass youmust also show your ID badge when you get onthe bus to and from College.Daily ID badge checks take place at bothCampuses. We do this in order to ensure thesafety of all students and staff at CRC.College is a safe environment but it is importantthat we all remain vigilant. If you see someone inCollege without a badge or something suspicious,please report it immediately to a member of staff.YOU FEEL UNWELLwhilst atcollegeIf you start to feel unwell whilst at college pleaselet a member of staff know immediately.If you need to go home you must speak to yourtutor or subject lecturer to let them know. Theywill ask you to complete a sign-out form, whichthey must also sign. This form must be taken toReception before you leave the college.If you are under the age of 18 at the start of theacademic year your parent/carer will be informed.“STUDENT BEHAVIOURand Conduct“THERespect yourcommunityAs in any community it is important that College members, students and staff behavein a respectful and cooperative manner to make the best use of the facilities andopportunities at CRC. Students who do not observe these behaviours or demonstratethe College values will be subject to the College’s disciplinary procedures. 19Student Handbook 2018-2019MOBILEFOOD ANDStudents are reminded that mobile phonesbrought onto College premises must beon silent during any teaching sessions andat all times when in the Learning ResourceCentres and all computer rooms.Students should not record, share ordistribute images and videos recorded onany electronic recording device (e.g. mobilephone, MP3 player, tablet) whilst on Collegepremises (including College transport) orCollege trips, which may cause offence toothers or bring the College into disrepute.Both Campuses have a number of food outlets,from the popular Costa Coffee (Cambridge) andStarbucks (Huntingdon) to The Kitchen, servingeverything from sandwiches and pastries to hotlunches cooked breakfasts and lunches.At Cambridge Campus the College shop alsoserves hot and cold drinks and sandwiches, as wellas sweets, cards and a range of everyday goods.Students can also eat in the College’s Brasserieat The Park. This is open to all members of thepublic, with meals cooked by catering students,and provides delicious, great-value food, whetherit’s a quick snack, a coffee or lunch.VEHICLEPARKINGFor Cambridge Campus, parking is chargedat 2 per visit and enforced by number platerecognition. Parking outside of these restrictionswill result in a fixed penalty notice charge tothe address the car is registered at. Please notethat enforcement is carried out by an externalcompany. Any concerns about penalty noticesshould be directed to the issuing company.There is currently no charge to park atHuntingdon Campus.DRINKFIRE ANDLOCKDOWNPROCEDURESAs part of CRC’s commitment to keeping allstudents, staff and visitors safe, we do hold regularfire and lockdown practices across both Campuses.It is important that you know what these areand what to do during a drill. There is a team ofpeople on hand to help and support you withthis. Drop in to The Hub or ask your PersonalTutor if you need anything.(PDP)YOUR PERSONALDevelopmentPlanAt CRC you will achieve more than justqualifications. Each full-time study programmewill help you to develop the skills necessary forsuccessful progression and employment. YourPersonal Development Plan (PDP) is a recordof your skills and areas for development andprovides you with a certificate that demonstrateswhat you have completed at CRC outside ofyour normal timetabled sessions. Your PDP isalso linked to the #WeAreCRC values.(ILP) YOURINDIVIDUALLearning PlanAll students on full-time courses, and thosepart-time students who have timetabled lessonsof 180 hours or more during the year, will be givenopportunities to discuss and complete an ElectronicIndividual Learning Plan (E-ILP) with their tutor.Full-time students can expect to have a minimumof 3 x 30 minute 1:1 Tutorial meetings with theirTutor at which you will complete and updatean E-ILP.These electronic Individual Learning Planshelp you identify your strengths and areas forimprovement, and by agreeing SMART (Specific,Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timebound)targets they will give you a focus and help youto overcome any difficulties you may have withyour course.These 1:1 Tutorials also give you the opportunityto review your progress and record yourachievements, helping you to make choicesabout future educational options andemployment opportunities.INDUSTRYplacementsThere is a team of people on hand to help andsupport you with this. Assist with accessing maths and English programmes tostudy alongside your apprenticeship. Provide advice and guidance on your employmentas well as support throughout. If you require support in applying for thesepositions, please visit the Careers and IAG Team in The Hub.(LRC) LEARNINGResources CentreThe LRC is a vibrant learning area at the heart of the College. TheLRC holds an extensive range of materials and information relatingto your studies, as well as a variety of study facilities and spaces.LRC staff can provide a lot of help with assignments. There arestudy areas in our LRC designed for both individual and groupstudy and the LRC staff are more than willing to provide help andtraining in study and research skills.Your College ID card allows you to borrow materials and loginto the 24/7 learning materials available on the website. We strive to give you lots ofopportunities to access free enrichment activitiesthat will broaden your horizons, develop your skillsand contribute to the CRC and wider communities.You will have an Enrichment slot in your timetableevery week. There will be activities to sign up forincluding sport, debating, creative groups andvolunteering opportunities.STUDENTAMBASSADORSchemeThe CRC Student Ambassador Scheme providesstudents with a wide range of opportunitiesto develop their skills and demonstrate theCollege values by acting as an Ambassador forthe College. Activities include supporting atCollege open events, attending learner voicemeetings, supporting with staff interviews,speaking at locals schools, promoting theCollege to prospective students and writingstudent blogs for the College website.Student Ambassador opportunities areadvertised weekly in TMail and training isprovided when required.For every hour you volunteer as a StudentAmbassador you will receive 1 Ambassadorpoint. All Ambassador points will be totalledat the end of the year and you will receive aBronze, Silver or Gold Award. There are alsoAmbassador of the Month and Year Awardsup for grabs too.TmailTMail is your way to keep up to date with thelatest goings on in the College. It advertisesopportunities for you to get involved with CRC lifeand broaden your horizons and skills to make themost of your time at CRC. Your tutors will deliverTmail each week in Tutorials. If you have anythingyou would like to add please visit The Hub.STUDENTunionAll students 16 who enrol on a course at CRCautomatically become members of the CRC Students’Union. The Students’ Union is run by students,for students, and aims to enhance the studentexperience as well as being a representative body forstudents. Should you ever need to talk tosomeone confidentially about issues that maybe creating barriers to success, our Welfare andSupport Team, based in The Hub is here to help.The team can offer support and advice on anumber of areas including: Safeguarding yourself and others whilst at CRC Mental Health Sexual health Drugs and alcohol Sexuality and identity Healthy Relationships And being a young carer or young parent.The team also works with a large amount ofoutside agencies and charities that supportthe service that is already provided.
